Texas vs ISU

When Texas is hitting 3s....they are a totally different team.

ISU's depth starting to hurt them as other teams improve. Their defense is pretty atrocious. Loss of Naz Long was also bigger than it seemed at the time.

Texas just got screwed.

Nt that there is anything wrong with that

What happened, I am watching the end of Maryland Michigan

Taylor was driving the lane with the game tied and less than 5 seconds. He went up to shoot and Nader pretty blatantly grabbed his right arm and the shot missed badly. No call.

Stuff like this really irritates me because people will defend the no call by saying, "the refs shouldn't decide the game." Well, but swallowing their whistles, they did attempt to decide the game.

Texas wins.....and IMHO, this helps OU in the long run. It's now a 3-horse race.

Taylor is a heckuva player, but I guess that I'm old school, the guy traveled repeatedly tonight and no whistle. Once, I saw that he had picked up his dribble out around the free throw line, took a long step toward the basket and shot.
Have they changed the rules? It's one thing to be allowed the extra step when driving with the ball, but not once the dribble has been picked up???

Way too much "playground ball" for my liking.

Saw that play. It was not a travel. He kept his pivot foot and just kept pivoting on it until he was able to make the shot. It was a very nice play.

ummmm

maybe you just described it poorly but what you described isn't a travel

He described it accurately. He had 1 foot, his right I think, as his pivot foot, pivoted around, then took a long step and scooped the ball to the basket. Nice play. No travel. It's a play you rarely see but it was legal.

No because he had not released the ball when he took that "long step".

When you establish a pivot foot (which he clealry had cause he pivoted around in circles over and over), you can not put your other foot down and pick your pivot foot up until the ball is released, that constitutes a travel.

His left foot was planted, he then stepped forward with his right foot, picked up his left foot, and THEN released the ball.

That's a travel.

not necessarily. Pretty sure what you just described is not a travel.

It would be a travel if instead of releasing the ball he dribbled the ball.

Or possibly if he had already taken a step and then established a pivot foot.

But I do not think it is a violation to pick up your pivot foot unless your pivot foot comes back in contact with the ground

It wasn't a travel. There a different rules on lifting the pivot foot depending on whether you are passing/shooting or establishing your dribble. If you have established your pivot foot, you can lift it to pass or shoot as long as you do so before the pivot foot reestablishes contact with the floor. If you couldn't lift your pivot foot before releasing the ball on a shot you could never take a jump shot after establishing your pivot foot. If you have established your pivot foot and want to dribble (assuming you are allowed to dribble), you cannot lift your pivot foot before you release the ball to dribble.

Taylor took one step out of his pivot and release the ball before his pivot foot touched the floor again. Unless he was dragging his pivot foot around on the play (didn't notice it but wasn't focused on it) he didn't appear to travel. Thought it was the right call.
