The 25 most intriguing men’s college basketball players for 2021-22

20. Jacob Groves, Oklahoma

Perhaps you’re asking: Isn’t this the wrong lanky brother with finger-in-electric-socket hair from the NCAA Tournament? Or is this merely a ploy to stuff two names into one Most Intriguing slot, because we can’t decide which one to highlight? Answers: No, and, well, maybe. Whether or not Porter Moser can deploy Tanner Groves as a (somehow) woolier version of Cam Krutwig — or whether Groves the Elder can handle that at the Big 12 level — is interesting. But Oklahoma is going to need some perimeter shooting. Badly. And Jacob Groves averaged 1.083 PPP on 36 3-point attempts as an Eastern Washington sophomore. And he’s now listed at 6-9 — two inches taller than a year ago. And Sooners coaches are giddy about the mismatch calamities such a player can create. But the younger Groves has to deliver, too, against consistently sturdier competition. Does that happen this year? Next year, after an up-transfer adjustment period? Or ever? It’s a subtly important wild card in the early stages of Moser’s tenure.

The big question is how he'll handle D in the Big 12. I can see both brothers not locking down as much as they should.
