The timeouts... were so bad

I have no idea why Lon felt the need to call them because we were TERRIBLE out of timeouts and wound up with horrible shots. Not to mention we kept having to inbound the ball right there by the scorer's table with no room. It was a grind to just not turn it over.

I just felt that we interrupted our own flow, and I think all it did was give KU a chance to set up their defense and suffocate us.

For the record...this is not Kruger bashing. I love Lon. Think he's a great coach. I am just perplexed that we executed so poorly out of the timeouts late in the game. It was brutal. Kruger gives everyone so much freedom but he was so quick to use those timeouts on some of those possessions.

Agreed. Their designed plays off a timeout were just bad.

That has more to do with Cousins horrid shooting night with 14%.

That forces the defense to lean heavy on Jordan and Hield.

Cousins had more impact on the loss than many truly understand.

Cousins just had a bad game. You know when you are cringing every time he touches the ball, it's not a good sign. I just didn't trust anything he was doing out there tonight. I think he tends to "press" in big games. He seems like he is really trying too hard sometimes and then just makes bad plays and takes bad shots.

Kruger needs a Plan B in this scenario the next time Cousins goes 2 for 14.

I couldn't believe the guy was still on the court as the others were forced to choose bad shot selections. That's what a bench is for.

Why don't you post your phone number here. Maybe Lon will read this thread and call you up for some advice.

The bench was 1-11. You take your chances on Cousins - he didn't have a good game tonight but he will be fine.

Yeah let's take out our best defender & ball handler out when the game is on the line. Cousins didn't play bad, he shot bad.

If you bench Cousins after 0-for-8 start vs ISU, you lose the game.

You have to call timeouts in overtime, the players were gassed. It was more about giving them a break than anything else. Lon knows what he is doing. They had every opportunity to win that game. 1 free throw, 1 more made cousins basket, the phog does it again.

Give me a break with the Lon timeout business. It's clear by our ranking and game play to this point he doesn't know what he's doing...smh.

+1. He had to give the team a timeout so they could get their air.

Ironic that this comes up since Coach was recently criticized on this very board for not calling timeouts.

First, I think most criticism about Lon's timeouts come when we are getting run out of the gym, taking wild shots, and he lets the guys play. It can be frustrating for me at times, but I also understand why he does it. The players need to learn and grow, and its the way he coaches. At the end of the day, I have no problem with it. Roy Williams & Sherri Coale do the same thing.

However, I really felt like last night, it was ruining our offensive flow every time we called the timeout. I mean, every time we called timeout, we threw it in right there in front of the scorer's table (where Kansas is allowed to stand on top of you) and struggled to get the ball inbounds. Then it was a scramble to get the ball into the right player's hands. I felt like it really, really played into KU's hands. We ended up with absolutely terrible shots or the wrong person taking the shot.

I would have much preferred to call the timeout after a made basket and to set up the defense and give the guys a time to rest. We have veteran guards who know what to do. They know how to score and win. I didn't think the timeouts were necessary or helpful.

Having said that, please don't take this as an over criticism of Lon. THERE'S NOT A BETTER COACH WE COULD EVER HIRE. He is AWESOME.

Funny. Good thing Coach isn't as wildly inconsistent as some of the geniuses that stumble upon this board and decide to trip over their keyboard to make a ridiculously worthless point. I didn't agree with everything Coach did last night but, if the guys had just executed better at key moments, we win in regulation. CLK has forgotten more basketball than everyone on this message board knows combined. I guess a keyboard and half a brain gives everyone a right to an opinion no matter how worthless it might be.

i didn't really have an issue with krugers game management.

I can't remember if it was at the end of regulation or 1OT but we got a rebound with 2 seconds left and didn't call a timeout
