UNM signed two players yesterday which pretty much rounds out their class. The schollie they are offering Thompson hinges on whether or not Darington Hobson goes pro, which could be a strong possibility if he is a first round pick (projected mid-late first, early second).

Guess we will see if Thompson is going to wait on Hobson or not.

Is it not truely sad when we are waiting on a kid who would be a leftover from UNM.......................

I did not mean it to sound so critical of the kid per se, but please.........................................UNM or OU?

Not really good news to me...IMO it means he prefers NM

I don't understand your logic at all. These players just committed to NM yesterday. It's not like Thompson has said he is going to wait and see what Hobson does before he decides...he has had this visit (to NM) planned for a few weeks now.

I know we have seen a lot of negative things in regards to OU b-ball over the past month...but some people just try to do whatever they can to turn somehting into somehitng negative.

Uh, New Mexico won 30 games last year & was ranked in the top 10 before Washington upset them in the 2nd round of the tourney. Regarding the state of the respective programs, I agree that the choice is quite simple, but unfortunately, I don't mean that in a positive sense.

I think Darington Hobson was the main reason he was considering NM in the first place. They were teammates at Eastern Utah. Hobson didn't announce his intentions to come out until early this week, so it's possible that Thompson didn't know about it until sometime after he set up his visit.

Here is the rundown from what I have heard:

Hobson did not declare until early this week, so Thompson was in line for another schollie prior (Alford went with a kid from Australia instead). Hobson and Thompson went to school together and that is where the interest was sparked.

UNM is not a bad program, if it weren't for their choke job in the MWC tournament in 2009, they would be on back-to-back NCAA bids. Not only that, they only lose one player off last year's team if Hobson comes back. Both of UNM's returning post players (outside of Hobson who plays it all) were sophomores last year. Add to the mix Drew Gordon at semester from UCLA and they have a chance to better than last year. Might not win 30 games because they will play a tougher non-con, but their team will most likely be better.
