  • You shoot 49% from the field
  • Osby goes for 18 points
  • Fitzgerald goes for 17 points
  • Pledger scores 16 points
  • Grooms scores 9 points and has 7 assists with only 1 turnover
  • Washington & Arent combine to go 4-4 with 8 points & 8 rebounds
  • Rebounding & Turnovers are a neutral factor

And we still lose.

Frustrating!

We failed to guard the 3 pt line. We didn't get some calls..being on the road. We didn't box out on several FTs and gave them 2nd chance points.

Give aTm credit, they hung in there after their best player went down.

Usually in a close one it's the little things. A little better perimeter D and better rebounding of free throws would have won this for us.

One person missing from that list is Blair. He has been part of our success the last 3 games. Where was he? It seemed like he basically didn't play the 2nd half or even touch the floor in OT. I remember he made the behind the back pass to Osby for the dunk in the first half, picked up a couple of fouls and then sat on the bench after that.

Carl only played 10 minutes. He started the game, got two early fouls and didn't play much after that. He took two shots and missed both of them, finishing with 3 rebs, 3 assists and 1 steal. He also had 2 turnovers. Cam played 35 minutes and ended the game with 7 points, 4 rebs, 2 assists and 2 turnovers.

Don't ask me to explain the disparity in minutes from a lineup that had contributed to two straight wins before yesterday's game.

Consistency is still a big factor. there were points in the game, particularly in the first half, that our defense was suffocating and our rebounding strong. Ditto with the offense.

But this team has a problem maintaining the level of intensity it takes to put a complete game together. Very possibly to some extent it is a depth problem. To play that hard for 30-40 minutes is hard. Kruger probably needs at least 9 productive players to get a strong 40 minutes from a team. Particularly without a star to carry the team over rough points.

We are headed in the right direction. It would have been a great story to hang on and win over Cincinnati and A&M and play two good halves against Kansas but this team is not ready to perform at that level yet.

We will get there.

We are missing athletic guards that can do something in the half court. Pledger has that ability but nobody else on the offense really does with any consistency.

Clark is athletic but has no half court game.
Grooms had a good offensive game with 9 points but when 9 points is a good offensive game for you as far as scoring. He should start because he's our best point guard. But he just doesn't add enough as far as scoring.
Blair has good range and can score some but he's not consistent and not overly athletic.

We do have 2 good athletes inside that can score. We also have a couple post players in Arent and Washington that can rebound pretty good. But we lack a lot offensively. We basically have 3 guys we need to score a bunch every game for our offense to work. Because we won't get much from anyone else.

OU was up nearly the entire 2nd half... I believe A&M lead for no more than a couple minutes. Then they ran away with all the momentum in OT. Really would've been nice to get that W on the road too.

To Grooms' credit, he did very well facilitating the ball and concurrently keeping mistakes at a minimum (had a 7:1 assist-turnover ratio).

But no doubt, we need more efficient scoring from our guards and wings. Clark was trying to be aggressive attacking the basket but A&M did a good job helping in the paint. Instead of settling for jump shots when defenders impede his progress towards the basket, I'd like to see Clark employ more jump-stops and prolong his dribble more. That should be two areas he should focus on in the offseason. Getting to the basket more will help increase his confidence, which at times has been lacking.
