From this KCstar article. Big thanks to Sycbe for posting this in another thread and bringing it to my attention. But I felt like it deserved its own thread.

In at least one case, the disappointment of the season prompted the early departure. Gallon believed as late as the Big 12 tournament that he was returning.

“But the stuff that went on, after I talked to my mother and coach (Jeff Capel), we decided the best thing was to come out,” Gallon said.

Oklahoma opened an investigation after celebrity gossip site TMZ.com reported Gallon had taken a $3,000 wire transfer from a Florida financial advisor. He said the money was owed to his high school, Oak Hill Academy. Gallon said it was required to release his transcript.

“They weren’t going to release it until we paid what we owed,” Gallon said. “We got the money, and my mom paid that money back. I don’t know what happened after that.”

But he does know his only college season was a bust.

“When you have three guys like me, Tommy Mason-Griffin and Willie Warren, you think it’s going to be easy,” he said. “We took it like, ‘We’re going to go in and blow teams out.’ All of us were scorers. But we didn’t focus on defense, and it backfired on us.”

If what Gallon is saying is true, it would seem to refute the arguments of some of those in our "cloak and dagger" crowd. I'm not saying that what happened was right or above board, just that it's a far different scenario than what's been presented here in recent days.

I hold no ill will against Tiny. He just seemed like a kid, maybe a little immature, who didn't know what he was getting himself into until it was too late, and looking back on it, realized that he messed up. I wish him the best of luck.

The facts are that a person associated with an agent wired money directly to an OU student athletes mother. And there is proof that an assistant coach on the student athletes team had regular conversations with this person who wired the money. That connects the dots directly to the basketball office. This punishment should be severe.

As an alum, I am completely embarassed and angry at my school. It is time to quit making excuses.

Really, embarrassed and angry? What did the school do to make you angry?

Good point, and the same one I was trying to make in my post. Tiny said his high school wouldn't release his transcripts unless the $3,000 was paid. This financial advisor either paid the tab outright or loaned Tiny's mother the money to pay it herself. Soon afterward, she paid back the money.

If that scenario implicates Capel in any wrongdoing, I fail to see it. And I refuse to be embarrased or angry until I'm shown something that proves otherwise.

The part that I can't quite understand is how a guy in Florida is used to give a mom in California money to give to her sons high school in Virgina so he can go to Oklahoma. Something doesn't add up there.

You don't think that this program is out of control? There is a direct connection between an assistant coach and a financial advisor with ties to an agent who made a suspicious "loan" to the mother of an OU basketball player. And this happened while the school is on probation. It is time to stop making excuses.

If she paid the money back, not sure what the issue was if it was a loan? People get loans all the time.

agreed, the usual handwringing crowd is out in full force.

I guess its okay then if you guys are happy about cheating to get players that lead to the worst season in OU basketball.

Lets make more excuses instead of fixing the problem.

They are not condoning cheating to get players, they are simply wanting you to wait until all the facts are presented and the School & NCAA rule on the matter. I'm with you on the situation looks fuzzy at best, but I wont know for sure until it is ruled on

why would a high school require a $3000 fee to release a transcript.

That schools needs to have it ass kicked, OT needs to have his ass kicked. The OU bball program should know better and I dont mind them being punished for getting involved, they should. I hope it is not harsh enough to effect our Fball team as well.

It would not be a fee...it would be back tuition.

Have you not seen enough facts? What else do you need to see? It looks pretty cut and dry to me. I don't need to hear the excuses from Capel and Joe C.

Oak Hill Academy is a Private School, they can charge for whatever they want, it could be late tuition, books, uniforms, etc.

I don't think you really went to OU.

Not sure if you are serious, but tell us all of these facts that you know that implicate OU.
