Tired of all this talk...

It's not like next season looks to be worse. Is it just that the damage is done and even if somehow this season ended well it's too late?

You're right. You have the same right to express your thoughts. I should have said, I disagree.

Thank you. I enjoy discussing differences of opinion, somewhere along the way I may view something differently that i did before. This topic just got me fired up.

I'm fired up too. I might change how I view things differently from time to time as well, I can understand that. I hope this all works out for everyone. Thank you.

+1

Its funny how last week after the 3 wins the same posters who were all level-headed saying "we will lose some games we arent supposed to and will win some games we arent supposed to" are now running off the cliff. Well guess what - we lost a game we weren't supposed to and it sucks but I think I'll wait to see how the rest of the season plays out.

:clap:clap

..... I had to take a break after the Chaminade game. Too many posts that reeked of Owen Field Bandwagon Fan/Poster.

About a coaching change. We get stomped in Maui and all the sudden eveybody is calling for Capels head. We win three non-conference games and everybody magically forgets how bad we originally thought this team was going to be before the season started!

If Capel could manage to have a successfull season with this group of players this year then I think it would be really good job of coaching. I don't think any coach out there could turn this years team into a post season tourny team. Capel is getting interest and even signing the caliber of players Sampson could only hope to be in on while at OU. The Caliber of players we want and the players we griped that Sampson didn't get.

This season was/is going to be disastrous and we all knew that. If this team ends up exceeding our expectaions then great, if not then we have to look at whats being done to make sure next season is better. Which so far is being done with Osby, Goff and young guys getting experience this season.

So let's cut Capel some slack and give all this we need a new coach crap a rest. If we're not seeing significant improvements in the next couple seasons then we can start talking about it.

Good grief please put down the glue.

A few things... 1) if you fire Jeff Capel, you should go ahead and fire Joe C... he presided over the destruction of the basketball program by losing control of it and then hiring another unknown in Capel. 2) Do you want to spend millions to break a contract and fire him (are you pitching in?) and get another mediocre coach? Who do you think we'd get that isn't just pure fantasy? ...and more importantly Joe C doesn't hire big name coaches. He likes to predict the future ones. 3) Capel has already proven that he can win and with the train wreck from last season it's "expected" that the team is rebuilding... that means you can't get rid of him "with cause". Perhaps after two losing seasons you can do that, but not after one.

If one judges the Capel hire to be a failure, yes, that is a mark against Joe C., but it certainly doesn't follow that you must fire Castiglione if Capel is fired. You have to judge his performance as athletic director as a whole, not on one hire.

2) Do you want to spend millions to break a contract and fire him (are you pitching in?) and get another mediocre coach?

Do I want to spend millions to get another mediocre coach? Talk about a loaded question.

And if by "pitching in," you mean "continuing to purchase tickets," then yes, most of us here are doing just that.

3) ...with the train wreck from last season it's "expected" that the team is rebuilding... that means you can't get rid of him "with cause". Perhaps after two losing seasons you can do that, but not after one.

I agree that will be Castiglione's logic. Not sure it's right, though, to be honest.

Joe C also presided over the hire of Bob Stoops, and has presided of the athletic department while OU has risen to the top in non-revenue athletics. He is one of the best AD's in the nation and gets judged by more than one bad hire.

If OU has another losing record, that will be three out of five years for Jeff. The players he has now are his, he is responsible for the lack of talent. He signed a bunch of players that nobody wanted last year. Capel is in over his head, OU is not at the same level as ku, mizzou, baylor, ostate, atm now in the big 12. Why keep a guy when he is destroying the program? OU needs to get rid of him after this season. OU got what it paid for when Joe C decided to not pay top money for a proven coach.

I am a season ticket holder and have been for over fifteen years, if Capel is kept as coach I will not be renewing my tickets and have talked with many people who have tickets also who feel the same way.

As much as I usually want to give a coach time, it is becoming more evident that this was an experiment gone bad. On paper, it seemed like we did enough homework to find that diamond in the rough. However, Capel still has too much growth to go as a coach. He may be better off getting a clean slate elsewhere too because it seems like he just keeps plugging holes in the dam with his finger and another pops up. I see how Joe C thought this was going to work and it looked so much like it did with Blake. Whatever the dynamic of WW, Tiny and TMG...that absolutely killed us and has gutted the roster and placed a cloud of uncertainty that we cannot recruit effectively to. Now money and buyouts muddy the waters and possbile investigation?? (not even sure if that is on the table..when?). In my opinion we need that experienced, system coach and build a program.
