According to a friend of mine that spoke to him directly at the GASO this weekend, Tony Mitchell says he is fully qualified.

Hopefully this is true. I had heard he had similar problems to Eric Bledsoe at UK earlier this year due to him transferring to a lot of different schools in high school. But I am happy for him because by all reports, he is a very good kid.

This is good news for Missouri. He's a player- probably a two year guy and then pro player. Missouri will be very tough next year. KU may be finishing 3rd in the North behind KSU and Mizzou.

I'll believe that when I see it.

I'm with Senior. Although, I kind of like the fact KU is a bit under the radar the other teams need to show me they have the nads to actually win a title before I can say they should be the favorites. Plus I don't know how the South home/away games plays out for KSU & Mizzou but KU has Texas, OSU and A&M all at home this year which bodes well for KU.

Nothing's official yet.

Apparently there's a news station down in Texas that's going to have a big story on his academic background tonight. No idea what it's going to say, but doubt it's much new.

Who knows....I doubt a news station is doing a story on a kids academic background unless there is something there. I'd be scared to death if I was you. :facepalm

KU will have the best point guard (Josh Selby) and the best player (Marcus Morris) in the North. Combine that with a roster full of talent and experience and I think KU will do just fine in the North.

Nick Wright with 610 Sports in Kansas City is reporting tonight that bad news should break tonight regarding Tony Mitchell and that he's having some "Darrell Arthur type" grade issues which means cheating allegations. Huge scandal at MU possibly going down tonight. Wow.

I bet it is breaking from Brett Shipman of WFAA- the ABC affiliate. He's about the only true investigative reporter left in DFW. He broke the Darrell Arthur grade changing story.

The word on Mitchell a year ago was that he had zero shot to qualify unless some Eric Bledsoe type magic took place and that he would be headed to Europe or the NBA developmental league.

I'd love to see him qualify because he's a very good player and would be fun to watch play. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

If anyone is going to get him qualified it will be Mizzou. Remember when I believe it was Stephon Hannah passed 24 hours of juco over a summer to get eligible at Mizzou the next year. :clap

Didn't you just post about Darrell Arthur?

A "Darrell Arthur type" "huge scandal"... but doubt you'd be willing to give back all those games he played in.

What I've read about the report - and we'll see very soon what is actually in it - it sounds more like it's an issue with his eligibility as a senior in Dallas. That doesn't necessarily impact his college eligibility.

Stefhon Hannah didn't need summer courses to gain eligibility. Ricky Clemons did, but 15 of those 24 were PE courses that went toward his associates degree and didn't transfer to Mizzou.

I don't think the school that claims such recent academic stalwarts as Brandon Rush, Darrell Arthur should really be casting stones...

Now that I've read the story, it's pretty much as I suspected. His Dallas HS has apparently decided not to accept the credits from the prep school in Florida. It has nothing to do with Mizzou and doesn't really say anything about his NCAA eligibility unless they also decide not to accept those credits. They may end up having to forfeit all the games he played in as a senior, but it's not a Mizzou or NCAA issue.

Oh no, this is huge first Ricky Clemons and now this. Where there is smoke there is fire. Too many coincidences with Mizzou recruits and how they magically pass a zillion credits in such a short time. They said Tony Mitchell passed 5 high school credits in a two hour period. Wow. Mike Anderson is going to be wishing he left this past season while he had some offers.

To gain NCAA eligibility do you not have to graduate from high school? Report says it's been confirmed he will not graduate this weekend.

So subtle... so artfully done. Now all we need is a million dollar scandal and FBI investigation and you have me.

The tests Mitchell took to make up the credit DISD didn't accept has nothing to do with Mizzou or his college eligibility, as the NCAA doesn't accept credit by exam anyway. That was purely a high school issue.

I'm not sure on the NCAA's requirements on graduation. I do know they will accept home school credits (which is what Mitchell received in Miami; his school was accredited by a Florida organization, which is accepted by all Florida state and athletic agencies but not Dallas). But they won't take a GED. If Pinkston doesn't accept any of his transfer credit, it may not be possible for him to graduate from that school. But if the credits would otherwise be fine in the NCAA's eyes - which isn't yet determined as far as I know - it's a unique situation that would likely warrant a closer look by the NCAA.

If the NCAA does accept his credits from Florida, I'd guess he'll be eligible next fall after resolving the diploma issue this summer (if necessary).

I agree. The KU ticket office won't be winning any national championships though. Nor even compete on the fields. To try and link the two is funny.
I'm just glad our top recruit is able to participate and the NCAA isn't fishing around him. For your sake his recruitment better have been on the up and up. Where there is smoke there is usually fire. I think you told me that.

No, I don't think I did. I don't think I've ever used that phrase, actually.

This isn't an NCAA issue, and it's nothing that wasn't already known by everyone who needed to know at Mizzou.

Speaking of NCAA issues, though... will Selby be bringing his AAU coach's Mercedes to Lawrence with him, or will he be trading it in for one of Scott Pollard's old cars?

Is Mizzou hiring his dad as the director of basketball operations as well?
