Trae may really have to stay now.

I am pretty sure the Young family can afford to insure him. Rayford got paid to play ball for a while and I believe he has been successful after basketball. Probably won't change things but I think Trae might have some options that are not necessarily available to everyone.

Denver, that is one of several reasons I think he may stay another year. Sooner333’s point is a good one, too. Trae appears to be more attached to achieving some of the goals he set for himself, for OU and for this team. In the end, none of them may matter as much as I believe they will. But, I think one and done for Trae Young is far from a foregone conclusion at this point.

People assume he’s all but gone because the lure of the money will be too great for him to resist. Maybe so. But they may not know Trae Young as well as they think they do. It should be obvious to everyone by now that he is not cut out of the same mold as most young men his age.

It would be a shock at this point if he stays.

Just because Rayford might be able to afford insurance doesn’t mean it makes sense for him to pay for it. Also, I’m sure Trae’s goals include the NBA as well as what happens at OU.

I don’t think he stays and I’m not going to try to talk myself into thinking he will. I hope he does based on purely selfish reasons. But really, the exercise is a waste of time. It’s not a situation where we don’t think it’s in his interest to leave.

It makes sense if Trae is really enjoying the college experience and decides he wants at least another year of it.

And I'm quite sure Trae's goals include playing at the professional level, too. So did Blake Griffin's. Heck, so did Baker Mayfield's. Both could have gone pro a year earlier, and neither could have known just how that additional year would go for them. I think Blake's decision was largely practical -- he felt he could improve his draft position. I suspect Baker's was largely about loving the college experience (though he did end up improving his draft prospects).

I'm not saying Trae's staying. In fact, I'd be very surprised if he did. But stranger things have happened.

Not every decision is money-based, and thank heaven for that.
