Trae Young's Kansas Postgame Tweet

lol I take it all back. Trae seems to be a good kid and I just think I don't understand twitter language.

I'm just always cautious of the guys that seem to have over inflated egos...esp on a bball team

For whatever it's worth, maybe nothing, I'm not the least bit concerned that Trae has already projected himself into the starting lineup next season. To paraphrase what perryj74 said, he knows his future teammates better than anyone outside a member of the team. It's perfectly natural for him to feel what they feel and to let them know he'll be there for them next fall.

I also don't have a problem with his confidence either [insert cockiness if you want]. Self-assured players are also self motivated. They don't have to be inspired by pats on the back to perform at a high level.

Trae is exactly what this team needs next season. I don't understand why everyone on this board can't see that? If he had been on the roster this season, I'm absolutely convinced the majority of our losses would have been wins.

Confident players like him, especially a point guard, are a coaching staff's dream. Coaches would much rather have a player who is self motivated than one who needs to be pampered and encouraged to perform at a high level. Trae also has the leadership qualities this team needs. He'll be the team leader next year, even as a freshman.

I can honestly say that I haven't seen anything from Trae Young that bothers me. On the contrary, I like his cockiness, if that's what you want to call it. Show me a player with his skill set who is not cockey to some extent, and I'll show you a player who will never reach his full potential.

Cockiness can be an asset and a liability depending on the situation. Given the circumstances that Trae is from Norman and has relationships with the team already, I'm sure it will all be fine and I'm blowing it out of proportion.

But for the rest of your post, I would not like a freshman player from out of state coming in making statements that he will be there soon to save the program and his father talking about how he will be starting from day 1. That is more of where I am coming from

Well he didn't say he was gonna save the program. He said help is coming. He already knows they are pretty good, but obviously we need a little help to get us over the top. And with what we are getting from the position he plays, if he didn't believe he could come in and help then I would be a little concerned.

I fully expect Young to be a upgrade but no need to put more pressure on a freshman than he's going to have anyway. Let's give him about 15 games into next season, he's going to have to adjust to the huge jump in the talent level going against him each game.

We need somebody with confidence. This team is lacking in it now. He will be the starting point guard the day he graduates high school. He will be even if he isn't as good as advertised.

he dominated in the EYBL next year won't be a talent upgrade ..

it will be a coaches and Defense upgrade ..

the only 2 guys that MIGHT be "pissed" are Moore and Shepard...and I'd say Shepard won't cause he's just a Fr...now Moore on the other had...might see his days numbered...big time.

The others are prob like "He11 YEAH!"...lol

I honestly want someone like Trae who wants to be the go to guy at the end of games. Players just have that instinctual ability to create W's in crunch time. He believes he possesses that, so I say why not let him try and be that guy next year.

Don't like it.

I may be reading too much into it but there is a difference in confidence and being cocky.

Tweeting stuff like this could rub current guys the wrong way. He has put in any work yet and doesn't have a right to say some of this stuff.

I don't have a good feeling about this kid. I hope I'm wrong but won't be surprised if I'm right

Exactly. And if I remember correctly, after Trae announced, Moore tweeted something along the lines of "The future is bright." I don't see anything wrong with this situation, but that's just me.

Exactly. Players like him thrive on pressure. Anyone who believes he will have a lengthy adjustment to the college game is not too familiar with the competition he faced playing for Mokan Elite. As Boulder said, Trae dominated in the EYBL. He has confidence in his ability because he's been there before.

And he'll draw more attention from the opponent's defense which will free up the other 4 players.

I wonder if they might consider redshirting Sheperd next year? Gives him time to get stronger, and work on his PG skills.

I like that idea. I also think he could swing to the two with a little more work on his perimeter game. He's a good athlete and he's not without the skills that could make him even more valuable to the team with a year to get stronger and to improve his skill set..

Personally, I think he's better as a freshman than was Cousins, but I don't know if his ceiling is as high as Cousins or if he has the work ethic.

we only will have 6 guards next year including he and strong-moore ..

not sure we can RS anyone ..

Good point, one I failed to consider.

With that in mind, RS Shepherd or any of our guards would not be practical next season.

I like Shepherd, had a good block on the lay-up (just a bright spot). He's young...but I like his upside.
