Transfer Portal 2025

From Lusk:

A source tells me it’s a three-horse race for Derrion Reid: NC State, Oklahoma, and Ole Miss. I was told it would be a complete shock if Reid were to return to Alabama, so I don’t view them as a serious contender at this point. We’ll see if he ends up taking a visit to Ole Miss.

As for his visit to Oklahoma, multiple sources said it went well, though Reid is a bit hard to read. One consistent note: Reid wants to play the three at his next stop. And for those questioning his ability to space the floor — he shot 42% from three across EYBL and his senior year at Prolific Prep.

IMO, in Moser's offensive sets, not a lot of difference in the 3 or the 4. Jalon had as many wing and corner three opportunities as Goodine, but often drove it instead. Only really changes on the matchup defensively, but we switch almost everything anyway. could have been how PM and the staff sold it to Reid.

Seeing people cite high school shooting numbers always makes me cringe. Was always laughable when announcers referred to Luke as a good shooter, as he lugged his sub-30% career mark around -- after all, he hit them in high school!

Disclaimer -- maybe this guy can also shoot, but his high school and summer stats don't mean much. And if he is our starting three, then I guess that may be a sign that the staff isn't as sold on Jones and JN being sure bets to be major difference makers. I'm all for bringing in as many good players as we can, though.

If he chooses OU, it will be interesting to see how Porter uses him. At the 4, he has Davis and Atak (assuming he is good enough to give us some minutes) and Jeff can slide over as needed. At the perimeter positions, he has 5 players that look pretty good. If he plays Pack and Brown, then he really only has one perimeter spot and I have been assuming this would be manned by Jones and Jeff. I was hoping Reid was the rugged rebounder to play at the 4 with Davis, or at the 5, with Wague and Rogers. But, if he doesn't want to play inside, we might not have the minutes to make him happy.

But that's just it. He won't have to play "inside" here regardless of the 3 or the 4.

In PM's offensive sets, we don't have an "inside" guy posting up on the blocks every time down the floor as the 5 plays the high post a lot. The 4 position is RARELY posting back to the basket on the block. I see a 5 position, or a PF 4 being more important defensively and on the boards in the 5 out or 4:1 offense.

As far as rebounding, yeah, we need more from the 4 spot, and all spots honestly. Jalon was our leading rebounder at 6 RPG, and among all three players at the 5, we averaged around 8 RPG. If we can up it to at least 10-12 from that spot, and have Davis pick up 6-8, I can see the added length from JN, Jones, and Reid at the 3 being a big deal.

Here we go again...

Group 1 Ball Handlers
Group 2 Wings (Non PG's)
Group 3 Post ups!

Its all about who you can guard. Very few run a traditional 2 post.. Closest probably is KU (demise of KU this year).

If we get Reid we will have all the size we need to defend and rebound more than in most recent years. We don't know what level Jones and Nwonkwo can go at but they are both 6-6 range.
Davis is 6-9, Reid 6-8. Wague 6-11, Rogers 6-10 Atok 6-9 that's plenty of size. Blair and Holst are likely not going to play roles next year.

We didn’t finish 12th. We finished 14th and lack of a quality big had a LOT to do with that.
Fact is we weren't good enough at guard either. Outside of Fears we got very little compared to the rest of the conference. We could have easily been better if we paid Oweh and Uzan and maybe got a Padilla along with Fears could have easily gotten something like that if we probably offered around what we are with this upcoming roster.

Bad shooters don’t shoot 42% from 3 at any level. And I don’t think taking Reid has any bearing on how Porter feels about Jones or Nwankwo. He’s just trying to add the best players possible and let the positions fall where they may. Jones can play the 2, and Jeff can play the 4, etc. when you’re playing 4 or 5 out, none of that matters a lot. The key will be what position will Reid be guarding on D. My guess is, not the 3.
