Transfer Portal 2025

May not count for much but hearing what one of Reid’s Bama teammates said about him in an interview this past season is interesting:

“He gives us a huge boost defensively, for sure,” freshman forward Aiden Sherrell said. “He’s a dog on defense. He can guard multiple positions. Offensively, he can drive you, shoot the 3. He’s a threat for sure.”

I really do love this. I know we need another guard, but I think we can be good as is.
Maybe this will surprise people, since people think I always hate our roster, but why do people think we need another guard? Pack, Brown, and Dayton are pure guards, and JN and Jones both seem like 3s to me. That’s five guys for the three spots … teams very rarely play more than five guards. Unless the latter two guys aren’t as good as some have said, we should be ok there.

Yeah thinking they are confident in Jones to be able to play some at the 2 spot if needed (likely if injury occurs)

Yep, kind of like our conversation earlier in the thread- better to get the best player to help your roster, rather than stick to a certain position slot for a guy that doesn't play a lot of minutes. Reid gives something defensively a G off the bench doesn't add.

Give me a Reid all day long and make a spot for him, vs. a 10-15 MPG guard that comes off the bench. Even if the G can shoot it a bit.

Brown, Pack, Reid, Davis, Wague, is a lot of length and athleticism. Throw in JJ, JN, and Dayton playing heavy minutes off the bench, and peppering in the freshman, that's a solid lineup and as good as we've had since 2016.

I kinda wish I didn’t read this because I will be very disappointed if he goes elsewhere now. Need all the help we can get defensively.

If we get Reid and take Payne, I'll feel really good about the roster construction.

Brown / Forsythe
Pack / Jones / Forsythe
Reid / Nwankwo / Jones
Davis / Reid / Nwankwo
Wague / Payne / Rogers

Holst
Atak
Blair

You've got 7 guys playing significant (20-25) minutes (Brown, Pack, Reid, Davis, Forsythe, Jones, Nwankwo) and Wague, Payne, and Rogers splitting the rest based on match-ups, performance, fouls, etc. To me, Holst is a reshirt, Atak is a complete unknown in terms of readiness to contribute, and Blair most likely won't make it. If we need one more late in the process, we should get a fourth ball-handler as an insurance policy.

We've got:

Proven ball-handlers
Top end shooters
Great passing
Size at wing and length in the frontcourt
Depth at both frontcourt spots
Athleticism across the board
Elite free throw shooting

To be clear, I'm not predicting a championship or an SEC top 5 finish or being overly exuberant. But, generally, this would be a solid roster and should be expected to be a top 25 team with a chance to make it to the second week of the NCAA tournament.

I don't think Reid would start but .. very much like this ..

Rashaun Agee is growing on me a little if we were to miss on Reid. Not sure if we have reached out, but may be bit cheaper and won't tie up a roster spot for multiple years.
