This will be one of the more interesting years to keep tabs on the guys who left the program. As for night one:

Los: 8 pts, 7 boards, 10 assists, 2 turnovers
Oweh: 21 pts on 8-9 shooting, 3 boards, 1 assist, 0 turnovers
Cooper: 17 pts. 9 boards, 1 assist, 1 block, 2 steals, 1 turnover
Hugley: 1 pt and 3 boards in 6 minutes

JM and Georgia Tech open tomorrow.

Honestly, no offense here but why do I care what these guys are doing elsewhere?

So I can pine over them if they do well?

So we can use them as a "gotcha" argument later?

Good luck to them but I don't personally care how they are doing. They don't play for OU.
I like the idea of tracking their progress, simply for a coaching development & evaluation.

If Los and Oweh just light it up at top tier schools, then Moser is not doing his job in either "evaluation" and/or "retention".

You also have to look at it, open-mindedly, bc Los has a much better roster around him, Oweh does as well. Will Oweh hit a slump? Will Los continue to be a proper game manager in an offense tailored to him. Is OU just a stepping stool kind of school then? Who knows, only time will tell. That is why we track this sort of thing.

A lot of Moser's tenure rides on past/present/future. So we have to keep tabs on guys and always wonder "What if?". Jury will still be out on these guys until they get into tougher competition.

Adding a little perspective (Not trying to start anything other than providing information) against the level of competition. Below is the current Kenpom ranking of their team and of the opponent after last night:

Los: 8 pts, 7 boards, 10 assists, 2 turnovers- Houston (#1) vs Jackson St. (#331)

Oweh: 21 pts on 8-9 shooting, 3 boards, 1 assist, 0 turnovers- Kentucky (#35) vs Wright St (#224)

Cooper: 17 pts. 9 boards, 1 assist, 1 block, 2 steals, 1 turnover- La Tech (#107) vs LSU- Alexandria (NAIA- Division I)- exhibition game per LSU-A's site but La Tech lists themselves as 1-0?

Hugley: 1 pt and 3 boards in 6 minutes- Xavier (#43) vs Texas Southern (#249)

I've said this before....a lot of times what people on here might consider "development" is looking at stats and not realizing that in many cases its simply finding a system that fits better.

Don't get me wrong. I don't wish anything negative on the guys who left but looking at stats simply to try to say "I told you so" or to try to pick apart someone or to make an argument just seems petty and unproductive.

I don't complain that people shouldn't start threads, so not really.

I'll just add...while you spend your time on the others threads pointing out how player x is not good, how unimpressed you are with player Y and how crappy the non conference schedule we play is....do you mind mentioning that Oweh's stats were put up against Wright State? Or that Cooper is playing mid-major ball and SHOULD put up better stats there.....his stats last night were put up against an NAIA team.

Actually, if you bother reading last night, I expressly said that I am not putting too much stock in what Oweh did last night because he also feasted on bad opponents last season. So the answer to your question is, very clearly, yes.

As for Cooper, all I did was post his stat line. Didn't say anything good or bad about him. So apparently you are now offended by me posting stats? Also, I don't recall you whining last season (or the season before) when there were threads devoted to our transfers. I guess you only take offense if certain people post things.

Not to counter too directly - because I generally agree with your premise that system fit can severely alter a players range of outcomes - but doesn't recruiting guys that fit your system also fall on the coaches shoulders? As in, if a guy does not fit (struggles) in your system and goes elsewhere and plays well, is it not on the coach for bringing that player in?

I was a big fan of Moser when we hired him, but for one reason or another it has not worked yet in the three going on four years he's been here. There is no doubt that this season is make or break for him in Norman. I would like to see him turn it around, but I'm not feeling overly optimistic. The fact that he has not been able to secure a better big than Tanner Groves or Sam Godwin in four seasons here is extremely concerning to me.

I think this team can win some games they aren't expected to win. Fears has a lot of potential to be a star, which is exciting. He's about as good a guard as we've had since Trae, and I hope he stays more than just 1 season. That's the problem it seams with PM guys - they don't seem to stay invested an entire season, and mentally quite once the going gets tough and transfer out after a season or two, tops. I wonder why that is? It falls back on PM, doesn't it? The team we had last year should have been better, and even though we were snakebitten a bit at the end there, it just seemed the guys didn't care that much, so if anything i'm looking for that to improve, towards the 2nd half of the season. Always a lot of optimism around this time of year, up until halfway through conference season, it seems. Cautiously optimistic this year it'll be different!

I am very interested. So I guess you could not click the thread, and i on the other hand, will.

Well, there's some argument that maybe our coach should be able to bend his system to fit players, particularly if they go somewhere else and go off. Don't you think?
