It still surprises me a bit that Tulsa drafted both Skyler Diggins and Angel Goodrich. Unless they really think Goodrich will make the roster (and I'll be surprised if she does), it appears to be more of a risk than taking someone who might be able to help more at a different position.

I think Angel will make the team, at lest for opening night. She's the only true other point guard on the team now, and she should make a decent backup for Diggins.

She is a great risk for second round, you never have enough guards in camp and if she does a great job, player gets hurt, whatever...she is there and from OK and the closest WNBA team to KU. great strategy on Shocks behalf. There are only 11 roster spots. Unlikely at her height. Spud Webb she's not! He could dunk.

Well an argument could be made she was as good as any PG in the Big 12. True, her height will be a disadvantage, especially on defense, but a smart coach could use her to his/her advantage. And the 2nd team needs a PG too. This isn't ND where Diggins is going to play the whole game.

If AG doesn't make the WNBA I'm sure she'll be getting paid to play somewhere.

Angel is from Tahlequah which is probably less than an hour from Tulsa. She's a pretty good player but I'd bet where she's from had a lot to do with her getting drafted and bringing in a sizable contingent of fans to pay.

Is that really that big of a deal? I will admit I'm a casual WNBA fan at best so i don't know how much that makes a difference. i would think that a team would use a second round pick to improve their team and not their gate. I would think they'd do that with an UFA maybe. I know the Chiefs will always sign a few area guys most likely to give them a chance to have been in camp for the local team. I could be wrong. It's been known to happen. :ed

You can't compare NFL and WNBA. Tulsa, especially being the smallest market by far, has acquired Courtney Paris, Andrea Riley, Abi Olajuwon, etc. among other things, hoping they would boost attendance. When Angel was in high school at Sequoyah Tahlequah, they were known for a very strong following wherever they went so I'd be surprised if that wasn't a consideration in the Shock drafting her. Article below shows attendance last year was lowest ave attendance since 1997. With Griner and Delle Donne that trend might reverse this year.

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/10/08/s...ll-facing-challenges.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0

Despite an uptick in season-ticket sales, the W.N.B.A. had its lowest average regular-season attendance, 7,457 fans a game, since its inception in 1997. It has not averaged more than 10,000 since 1999.

I would think having local players would make a minor difference in attendance whereas winning games would make a huge difference.

Bingo! I still think Angel was taken in the 3rd and that was a good pick up, Tulsa need a back up point guard and she's good as any college player in the 3rd round, some mock drafts had her in the 1st round early on. Tulsa lost both there starting point guard and back up in the off season.

If she makes the team, it's a win/win situation.

I didn't think this was worth starting a new thread: Tulsa Shock fired yet another coach

We were losing less than we had been under Nolan Richardson, but still losing a lot.

No idea how this bodes for Courtney Paris' future WNBA prospects, let alone Tulsa's. 4K per game is not going to keep the franchise in town forever... while losing 23-30+ games per season is not going to increase attendance.

*sigh* i bet D-Rob could save the team
