Fellas, and ladies, should you feel like tweeting about the spiky hair guy walking around yelling into a microphone making you cringe make sure you don't actually use @Soonerhoops in your tweet. What will happen is that you'll get followed by spiky hair guy on twitter and sent a message that reads something like this.

Hello,

I am so sorry that you do not like me at the OU Basketball games. I would really like to know what makes you cringe so I can work on that for the future. I have been doing the emcee live mic at OU games for the past 7 years and have not received any negative criticism from fans until now. (Well, none that I have been actually able to hear from fans.)

So, once again I am sorry and feel bad that I make your enjoyment of OU Basketball games a negative one and would love to hear anything you can advise on how to make it a better environment for you and your family.

Sincerely,
Adrian Buendia

Dear Adrian,

My advice would be for you to stop being a spiky hair guy walking around yelling into a microphone.

Sincerely...

I removed the guy's phone number from the first post. I assume he sent it to you privately and doesn't want random people calling him.

I've actually thought that he has been fine when I've been to games. Not better or worse than other emcees at other college or NBA venues. I would be glad to have that role gone altogether, but someone has to tell us about all the sponsors I guess.

My response to spiky haired yelling into microphone dude. The link I refer to is a thread where several suggest doing away with the position of spiky haired yelling into microphone dude.

"Below is a link you should check out. I'm quite certain most of us don't have a problem with you personally. We understand that you're doing what it is you're paid to do.

I'm actually quite shocked that you haven't received any negative criticism from fans until now. This has been a discussion on message boards as long as the University decided that this was needed to add to the experience of attending an OU basketball game.

My one comment about how the University can make my enjoyment of OU basketball games a more positive experience would be to bring back the college feel to the game. The non-stop commercializing of every possible spare second is quite nauseating and yes at times makes myself and others cringe."

people are only complaining about this stuff b/c we have sucked since Blake left. If we were winning, fans would come and we would have a college atmosphere again. It's not the sponsors and ads that take away the college atmosphere, it's the lack of excitement at the games. Look at the Thunder games, they are full of sponsors and gimmicks but its still an awesome atmosphere b/c it is packed and fans are vocal.

If we were winning, we wouldn't nit pick about this lame stuff. it's not any worse than any other arena.

While I will agree with you that winning more would increase the attendance and excitement I couldn't disagree with you more about the commercialism of the game taking away from the college atmosphere. I do complain about it at football games as well and except for the last season plus we hadn't lost a game at home in a long while. Each and every year and game it seems like more and more of the college atmosphere is sucked out of the game to sell another spot on the video board. I'm just curious how long it will be before the band isn't even allowed to sit in the stands and are just in the stadium long enough to preform before the game and at halftime. This isn't exclusive to football and basketball either. Baseball games at LDM have progressively gotten worse as well. Entertain me with a band, cheerleaders, and college athletes giving it their all. I don't need someone screaming in a microphone about free t-shirts to be entertained.

You guys have an emcee yelling throughout the game in addition to the regular PA guy?

WHY?

Who thought that would be a good addition?

He is not yelling during the game and not even at all timeouts. GEEZ!

I still like the "old days" when the band played a great deal during the timeout periods. The band and the cheer squad is enough for me.

Most of the "additional stuff" detracts from the enjoyment of going to a college basketball game, especially the "emcee dudes" that can now be found at many arenas. Maybe the OU emcee seems worse since we I hear him all the time. He is bad though.

The folks that I go to games with are in the over-45 demographic, and no one I know likes the timeout emcee routine or the timeout "fun and games" that seem much more goofy than entertaining.

Based on actual attendance, you cannot make a case that the timeout emcee routine or the timeout "fun and games" are making a positive difference in any demographic.

I wish the emcee guy would be quiet. Just turn the microphone off and put it away.

Or, to put it another way, the best part of staying home and watching games on TV is ... on TV one never sees or hears the "timeout emcee routine" or the timeout "fun and games."

Maybe it is best to stay home and watch it on TV!
