It appears there are still some battles going on for playing time but it seems to me it is becoming more clear who will be in the top two at most positions. Here is my best guess at this time.

PG- Morgan, Edwards
SG- Aaryn, Morgan
SF- Sharane, Kornet
SF- Kornet, Sharane
C- Griffin, Kaylon

That is 7 players. I expect a couple of others will come on and get some playing time to make it 9 but I doubt we will see Sherri go deeper than that unless we get a good lead. I won't be surprised if Carter is one who starts playing more consistently and works into a pretty solid backup.

I think Carter definitely is number 8 in the rotation, the last will come down to Derica, Shaya, and Portia. Derica and Shaya as freshman are better players than Portia, and they get Sherri's system. Portia still looks lost. Sherri may use the two frosh as what a game needs. Shooter, use Derica, rebounding , go with Shaya. I think as we move towards conference season Sherri will probably have her 8 and 9 kids that will get the majority of minutes.

With the WNIT, UCLA, Duke, and Marist looming ahead, our youngsters will have their trial by fire very early, and we will see who is the "cream" that rises to the top. The Sooners have a very demanding pre-conference schedule and I am excited to see how our kids handle work through it.

I would feel better if Carter, Kellogg, or Wyatt would begin to hit shots. I think Carter is the future that Sherri wants, although she probably is not all that close to that future yet. Shaya and Derica just do what Sherri likes in players. They remind me a lot of young Morgan Hooks. They do right things. They aren't flashy. But, they get to the right place, seem to be under control, and don't make many mistakes. I see them as quite a bit ahead of Portia already. Portia still looks like she is playing on the Louisville streets.

With Sherri, it is a lot about who makes the fewest mistakes that defines playing time. Defense, position, and doing what you are supposed to do. Sherri doesn't even seem to mind missing shots, as long as they are good shots that you worked hard to get.

Derica reminds me a little of Kornet from last year. Nicole struggled with her shot through most of the season and then came on the later portion of the Big XII and then through the tournaments. But she did other things well, defense, rebounding, and passing. I agree with you on both Derica and Shaya. They play with in themselves and make few mistakes. Derica has excellent form and her shot will come. Shaya has a little work to do on hers. I see a lot of up side on both these kids and love their passion on the floor. I think they will earn their way into some good minutes as the season progresses.

Gioya has a real poise about her and once she gets comfortable with her shot, I think she will surprise us all. She is a smart player and a big body for a guard, which will fit well in the rugged Big XII.

My take:

Edwards is in - she's poised, dependable, and an excellent distributor. She needs to start taking some shots instead of always dishing.

Carter is most probably in - but she needs to start making shots.

Kellogg may be working her way in. She gets quiet points and rebounds each time, and she's at the position that's most up for grabs.

Wyatt is going to have to show more than she's showing now to get quality time.

I thought Durrett looked good last night. Hard to tell, because she played most of the second half out of position at the 3 (but she scored that way).

This is just my impression, but I think Sherri would like NOT to play Sharane at the 4. Her quickness and general ability is just so much stronger at the 3. If Sharane plays at the 4, that will be because of a failure of anyone else to step up in that position.

I agree Tango.

I think T'Ona and Gioya are both in. Gioya reminds me a lot of Sharane in that she does lots of things well, rebounds, hustles, plays good defense and in good position. I think her shot will come around although she seems to be a scorer rather than a shooter.

Very impressed with Shaya at this point. She reminds me of Joanna in her first couple of years. Plays hard, good defense, rebounds, and can step out and hit the 3. She's going to be a very good player for us. As long as she can be pretty consistent, I think she's going to get some time this year.

Derica is actually better than I expected at this point in her overall game but I don't see her getting lots of playing time this year. I don't think she's one that will create her own shot but will have to get open. She's going to be stronger and more valuable on the court in a year or two.

Portia, at times, can be really good. I think consistency is her biggest problem at this point. Since she's a senior but only her second year here, I'm hoping the consistency kicks in soon.
