First off, I think Tyler Neal seems like a hard working student athlete. He also, based solely off of his tweets and demeanor on the court, seems like a great young man. And IMO he is a very good D1 Student Athlete.

However, he is not a D1 Player who should be receiving minutes in a game like tonight. Those 4 minutes could have been and probably should have been given to Fitz or even Pledger. That is my one gripe against LK... Tyler gets too much playing time... As sad as that sounds, he only averages like 5 minutes per game, but I am just not sure it brings much to the table at this point.

I read on the Game Thread where someone said that he "looks like a fish out of water" and I agree with that assessment. He works hard and hustles, and I am sure has earned (during practice) the playing time that he is given... But on the court he isn't showing up. Love the dude, and think he will do great things with his life... I even think he really helps this team, but I don't think it will be on gameday.

We beat Texas tonight for the first time in several years and this is what you think deserves a thread of it's own?

Let me see if I got this straight....

We just beat Texas to improve to 4-1 in conference play. Tyler Neal is a good student athlete who by your statement has earned the right to play in practice, but he still shouldn't play 3-5 minutes a game?? Is it just me or is this a contradiction? I am pretty sure coach Kruger is aware of Neal's limitations, but he still plays him, why is this? Is it because he wants to increase our chances of losing (as you are basically asserting)? I would assume that isn't the reason, rather he plays Neal because Neal has earned playing time by his combination of skills and conduct on and off the court. Kruger may just be crazy enough to think other players on the roster will notice that their coach truly does care about the way his players approach school and practice, thus they will follow Neal's example as a means to more playing time. Coaching is way more than simply playing the best players the maximum amount of minutes, if that's what you are looking for there is a midget up the road who will be happy to oblige.

Well he's right. He is terrible and it's ridiculous that he was I think second off the bench ahead of fitz

Each of these statements in the bold, prove that you completely misread what I was saying. (1) if you continued to read the entire thought, you would see that I said, he isn't earning playing time on game day. Although, he works hard and does everything he is suppose to do in practice, does not mean that it will translate to the court when the lights are up. I mean with your logic, we ought to also play Fraschilla when it counts... I am sure he works every bit as hard as Neal in Practice. (2) I realize that coaching is more than playing your best players for every minute... Thank you Captain Obvious. What I was asserting, is that those minutes would be better served given to Fitz and Pledger. Do you not agree?

And I will say that I am sure you are right about the message it sends to the other players, when they see him get on the court. But take a look at that 4 minute stretch that he played, and tell me what that says?

I'm comfortable letting Coach Kruger make those decisons instead of anyone on this board.

Thanks for stating the obvious... Of course we are all comfortable with that, but I was just making a comment. Those four minutes, killed out momentum (if there was any at that point) and really put us in a bind.

Yes and there are a lot more noteworthy things to discuss about this game than anything about Tyler Neal's game.

Agreed, and that is why it is a separate thread. Go to those, if you don't want to discuss it. And I have seen way worse Threads than this one...

I agree both Fitz & Pledger are superior players to Neal (also different skill sets), but like I said Kruger isn't playing him to decrease our chances of winning games. Complaining about a role player playing 4 minutes after a sound victory is really poor taste IMO.

ohhh dang..... spill it. or pm what you've heard
Well it's not a big secret that I'm aware of. I've just heard he's not the hard worker we/the coaches would like him to be. Is basically the same guy as the day he stepped on campus with no skill development, and partially due to lack of extra work or want to. But he's still a guy that can help the team and doesn't complain about his role.

I remember when he played. In three trips down the floor he had two turnovers and a missed shot. The first one was a drive to the basket and he got clubbed and lost the ball. The second he was going for a loose ball and was pushed out of bounds. Looked like he was playing hard to me. This was also the first half where we should have been up double digits and were behind. Seems to me a lot of guys were stinking it up. I haven't any problems putting him out there. We have no idea why someone was still on the bench or why the rotation is how it is. Cousins came in at the same time as Neal and didn't impress me one bit.

Maybe it is in poor taste, but I am currently watching the Replay (because I don't have ESPN, and had to listen to the game), and those minutes were crucial to our struggles at the beginning of the game. I just want to know what he brings to the table? It seems like every time he steps on the floor we go down and we are playing like 4 1/2 on 5. We just lose a step. And I am sure Kruger is not trying to "decrease our chances of winning games"... And I will also say this, if this is all I have to complain about, then we are having a pretty good year. It is just something that has bothered me throughout the season and tonight I just felt like sharing it. I appreciate your opinion and comments.

Something else regarding his playing time: It is always early in the game, and then we pretty much never see him again. Just seems a little weird. Maybe a heat check? Like if he is doing well, then he will get more PT later?

Yeah we were "stinking it up", but I think that Cousins at least came through with some good passes and his defense is pretty stinking fierce.

Maybe he's taking up some minutes early so someone will be able to be on the floor later in the game.
