Bruins playing well, I haven't personally been watching much with all the other sporting events going on but based on the 53-51 score with 15 minutes or so left in the second half I would say KU is struggling on defense but doing well enough on offense to be winning.

P.S. if you guys think Tiny was fat last year look at big Smith (former OU recruit) for UCLA. He's huge but has been battling down low.

ku hasn't played great d. but not horrible. aggressive, and they've forced turnovers even though it's also given up some easy buckets.

the real problem has been that ucla has outworked them on the boards. ku seems to be going after the ball a little harder the last few minutes though.

KU wins thanks to an extremely questionable call at the end of the game....

77-76 final

I bet Cheno is happy...the ref's rock chalked another win for KU tonight :facepalm:ed

Very happy. Too play bad and win against a quality opponent is always good. Hopefully that game is KU's wakeup call. Tyshawn & Marcus took over the 2nd half which was good to see. KU needs Selby.

Thank you Cheno for being one of the good KU fans that realized that UCLA played a helluva game... I'm tired of the current whining by the students, on my facebook page, about how poorly officiated that game was... so I thank you :clap:clap:clap:clap

Yeah, I mean UCLA shot the piss out of it. They wanted it more tonight than KU. KU didn't look focused and missed free throw after free throw. Games like this happen...you just hope you can win them. KU did.
Honeycutt was unreal. UCLA is going to have a solid team this year and then next year I think they will be really good when they have pretty much this entire team along with the 6'11 Wear twins

48.3% 42.9% 63.6%
fg% 3pt% ft%

Exactly. 48% vs a Bill Self defense rarely happens. KU guards you. UCLA hit tough shots. And 43% from 3 is like shooting 65% from 2.

OMG...the general student population at other schools cares about basketball enough to talk about it on Facebook? That's news to me! :D

ucla hit a few tough shots. and a lot of easy shots. ucla hit 6 3s, total btw. they weren't mad bombing.

self agrees with me, not you:

We didn't come ready to guard, rebound, or fight for loose balls.

Smith will work hard and play D. He's a big boy like Keith and prob doesn't have the offensive skills, but he's got a lot more going determination-wise.

KU didn't play that well, they need Selby badly. As for the call at the end of the game, weird situation, but it has to be made...advantage was definitely taken away by contact for a last second shot.

KU's interior defense sucks. I would attack the Morris twins all day long and get them in foul trouble. Not to mention the Morris twins inability to hit free throws, so when defending them hack away.

This.

KU doesn't have anyone to match up with a big guy like Josh Smith now that Aldrich is gone.

I think for most teams KU's big men don't have to man up that much because they are similar in size and KU has the quickness advantage inside but against teams with similar size or bigger they could really struggle.

What do you mean. My exact quote on the game was:

They wanted it more tonight than KU. KU didn't look focused and missed free throw after free throw.

I basically said the same thing.
UCLA still had to make shots. And they did.
I bet you can't find 5 teams since Self has been there who've shot that high a % from the field and three vs KU in Allen Fieldhouse.

This is a new KU team. Rebuilding. We're just hoping to be able to stick with KSU, Sys. You guys are the preseason Big 12 champs and Final Four pick. Anything less is a choke job. Welcome to the world of expectations.
Let's see how Frank and the boys handle it.

no, you said ucla hit tough shots. self and i said ku's defense and rebounding was inadequate.

And I said KU played bad also. LOL.
KU's defense and rebounding was inadequate.
And UCLA hit tough shots. But whatever.
