Playing 10th-ranked Oregon at the PK80 Classic Saturday on the Ducks’ home floor in Eugene, the Oklahoma women got about all they could ask for from center Vionise Pierre-Louise.
Too bad, they didn’t get enough from other sources and the 10th-ranked Ducks walked out 92-74 victors.
Pierre-Louise hit 12 of 21 from the field and 8 of 13 from the foul line to finish with 31 points to go with 13 rebounds and four blocked shots over 32 minutes on the floor.
Meanwhile, the rest of her teammates made only 12 of 48 shots for a team-wide percentage of 34.8 (24 of 69), while Oregon cruised, canning 52.8 percent (38 of 72) from the field and 43.5 percent (10 of 23) from 3-point land.
The Ducks only attempted six free throws to the Sooners’ 34, but it didn’t matter. OU failed to outscore Oregon in all four quarters.
One bright spot of the Sooners?
They will likely never again shoot so poorly from beyond the 3-point line. Against the Ducks, they attempted 21 from distance, with Gabbi Ortiz making the only one.
Sabrina Ionesco led Oregon with 28 points and six assists, also grabbing seven rebounds. Ruthy Heard finished with 15 points and 15 rebounds.
The Sooners also received 17 points from Maddie Manning, who made only 3 of 11 shots, but 11 of 15 from the foul line, and 12 points from Anna Llanusa, who made just 3 of 9 from the floor, yet all six of her free throws.
The Sooners fell to 3-2 the while the Ducks improved to 5-1.
OU plays Little Rock, at Little Rock, at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday before returning home for a Dec. 3 contest against Florida, part of the Big 12/SEC Challenge
