Interesting about Hield switching numbers. Wonder if that is just bc he likes 24 (old HS number or something else significant) or is it more out of respect or accepting a leadership role. A kind of symbolic gesture?

Thanks BigTime.

Is it safe to assume that all the new guys are now on OU's campus, since they have been assigned numbers? I do NOT twitter or tweet, so maybe someone else could ask this question at the link provided by BigTime.

Done.

Answer from school is as we have heard. Hamilton and Avila are not here yet. Arrive later this summer.

You would have to think they will do everything within the rules to get those guys on campus and available for the overseas trip, even if they don't get to participate in the practice sessions here.

What am I missing about the jc guys? It seems like OU has this problem in football too.. Does the jc academic calendar not end in May like normal colleges? Or is it that our football and basketball teams constantly recruit jc guys that are so bad academically that they all seem like they need summer school to get eligible for d1? I know that being a jc by definition means that you aren't an Einstein, but geez knowing you have a d1 ride at stake can you not dig your nose into the crayons and coloring book a few more hours a week? C'mon...

Relax. You are not going to get perfection in an imperfect world. Many of these kids either (1) came from single-parent homes and/or (2) went to public school systems that did not prepare them for college academics, or (3) they were not challenged academically in public schools as they received “special treatment” as good athletes. There can be many other reasons. Each individual case is different.

I also feel the frustration with these academic hurdles and delays, but I try to look on the bright side. First off, this is not just an OU issue. There are many high school and junior college student-athletes across the country that have to play catch-up in their academic work to get their athletic scholarships. (We just know about the OU kids since we follow OU.) But most importantly, many of these kids should be admired when they persevere and overcome a “bad start in life” and achieve the opportunity to play for a school like Oklahoma, not to mention the opportunity to get a college degree.

As a side note, I am encouraged by the recent reports of how well OU is doing in all sports when it comes to the Academic Progress Rate (APR) ratings.

Regarding the incoming junior college basketball recruits, all we can do is be patient. It is too bad that they will not be in Norman all summer, but, it is what it is. Not everyone can be ranked No. 1 academically in his high school class like C.J. Cole, now majoring in biochemistry with plans to attend medical school.

Yep. I hope all the guys get to make the trip in August.

I'm already relaxed, thanks. I was just wondering if the academic calendar is in fact different, and it would be a little more understandable. Like for instance, some Cali high schools get out in late June.. That would be a valid excuse. Inability to pass 12 hours a semester at a JC taking jock classes is not, that's pathetic. Anyway, hopeful they make it in for the tour. Unless they're studs, it'll take a year to adapt to Big 12 style play, then we may end up getting one good year out of them if we're lucky.

I'm expecting Kruger and staff to hopefully sign some good high school bigs in the near future. Even though Capel left this program in an utter hell hole that excuse shouldn't last forever. I'm hopeful, of course, that he will.. Interested to see how the 2014 class turns out.. Get'em Lon!
