A couple of good posters sent me a pm about a visit from two prospects this week. As hard as it is to get info from the program, One confirmation was a pg prospect named D'Carlos Franks from Beaumont Ozen.

The second was about a mystery big man from the UK. I could not find anything on the web to confirm who the mystery guy was. The only UK prospect to fit the description was Robert Gilchrist, a UK kid that goes to a prep school in New England, Worchester. If it is Gilchrist, there is a ESPN profile and Youtube film.

If it is Gilchrist, color me impressed.

i've seen the gilchrist name somewhere in relation to ou... i can't remember where i saw it if it wasnt on the forum...

Lol.... i think the op was referring to across the pond...

By UK he meant United Kingdom, not Kentucky.

If indeed it is Gilchrist that might be a steal.

Read where D'Carlos Frank had 31pts in the half of one of his high School games. Would really like to see some film on him. Maybe James Hale will do some digging so we can find out who the other recruit was.

Didn't look like D'Carlos played AAU ball? I wonder if there are kids each year that get missed out on b/c they don't play the summer exposure circuit.

You bet there are. A lot of these kids continue to fly under the radar at mid-major or smaller schools and never get noticed nationally unless their team makes it to the dance during their college career. Check out a few NBA rosters just for fun and you'll be shocked by some of the schools represented.

I'm not suggesting that D'Carols Franks is that caliber of player. I don't know much about him. But I do know that you can't always go by the number of stars by a recruits name.

Are any other "Big" schools in on these guys or is it us and a bunch of mid level mid majors?

Here is what I could glean from some article from the Beaumont paper during last season. These are the mentions of "DeCarlos":

(forgot this interesting note: who is the AD at the local University? Hint: the local university is Lamar...)

"Ozen's DeCarlos Frank scored 24 points, which included six 3-pointers." in a loss to Central.

READ THIS: http://www.beaumontenterprise.com/sports/local/frank_breaks_two_school_records__help_ozen_win.html - DeCarlos broke the single-game scoring record with 46 POINTS - including 12 3-POINTERS!!!

Most of the rest is pretty standard stuff. Seems like he almost always scored double-digits and is a dangerous outside threat. Can't tell if he can handle the ball / run point or not. Might be found in some of the other articles...

I don't know who visited. However, if it was Robert Gilchrist, then that might be OK. Here is what I found on the internet.

He is a kid from England, but attended a New England prep school this year in the USA. He is a 6'8 kid that is described in some publications as a freak athlete. Couldn't find any stats on him for this last year. But supposedly he is being recruited pretty heavy -- by whom the article I read didn't say. If we get the two juco kids, then a high school big with some upside sounds good to me.

I sure would love to hear of a new commit from a point however. In any event, it is starting to look like Jeff is putting a team together than can be competitive next year. I was worried we were going to be fielding a team of walkons from the frat houses.

The recruits were actually Neil Fingleton Jr. and Jersey Gates. Here they are photographed together by Kyle Hardrick shortly after playing pickup ball with the team. Looks like Capel is putting together a real bang-up class this spring..............

I really hope Gilchrist is the right recruit that was referenced. That little blurb really showed he had alot of athleticism and that is what we need in a bad way. Wouldn't mind ending the recruiting with two pgs like Newell and Franks to go along with this kid. Capel has really been active and I like that.
