Because 9th could be the same as 6th (or even 5th) in this year's Big 12. Amazing depth and balance for the conference.

I said sometime ago that 6th place was more realistic. I still believe that, but if this team plays with the heart and determined effort we saw last night, I might have to raise the bar a little higher, maybe a tie for 5th. Right now we're tied for 6th with OSU, Texas and A&M. That's not bad when you consider our 0-3 start.

As more results come in, these teams are staring to identify themselves. Your projection looks about right to me. It might come down to the Texas series. A split with them could result with a tie for 5th with Texas. Lose both and a tie for 6th with others could be the case. Win both and 5th place alone would be likely.

These guys are really not that far from being 5-3 in conference play and 16-4 on the season. I think Kruger has done a great job and the guys have worked really hard. They are going to be a good basketball team next year.

College Station is going to haunt me personally all season, next would be that oSu game, but not sure we match up with them all that well. I like that Osby is making a very similar impact to what Nate Carter did about this point of the season in Capel's first year [and that Osby is Jr. and not a Sr.!].

The only team we are guaranteed to be swept by is Kansas. We already swept KSU.

It's likely Baylor will sweep us and 60-40 Mizzou does. So for a 9-9 record we need to sweep 3 teams worst case. Texas Tech is a must and Texas/ISU is doubtful.

So our best chance for that 9-9 record is to sweep Tech & KSU, get the split vs Baylor or Missouri and everybody else but Kansas.

Then win a game in the Big XII tourney and that gets us to 20. When it's all said and done the Cincy/A&M losses probably knocked us off the bubble but that's OK because this team will be better off making an NIT run than being 1 & done in the dance.
