We're in as a #9 seed....would you take it?

I think I would take that because I'm assuming as a young team we would be on the upswing as the young guns figure things out.......

or we have hit the wall as youngsters and barely sneak in like the last 2 years.

Thoughts???

I disagree with your premise we barely snuck in the past two seasons. In the eyes of some of our fans, perhaps, but not according to the committee.

I hope we can do better than a 9 seed this season, but if it comes to it, I'll take the 9 and see what we can do.

Replace that 9 with a 7 and I’d book it right now.

Being within one or two games (wins turned to losses) of missing the Dance is probably accurately reflected as "barely getting in."

I get it, in terms of last teams in we may not have been right at the bottom. But we didn't have much room for error in terms of our record.

Would not take it. I'm tired of being mediocre.
We need to find the coaching and the talent to be consistently in the top 25, top 3 in the conference, and a 5 seed or better.

The original poster presented a #9 seed as somewhat of an improvement over the previous two seasons, when OU "barely snuck in."

And yet what was our seed last season? #9. And #10 the season before.

We didn't sneak in either of those seasons, and if we're a #9 in the upcoming season, we won't be sneaking in, either.

Where exactly do you see me saying a #9 is better than the last 2 years? I simply presented the bracket and presented 2 scenarios for how you view it.

We did sneak in the last 2 years, we were in the last 4 in Trae's year and as WTSooner said, another loss or two last year and we were out. Maybe that's comfortably in by your standards, but not the point of the original post anyway.

Obviously this is nothing more than a projection, but still interesting to see that his bracket is fairly consistent with how some of us see the league shaping up. He has KU as a one, Baylor a three, and Tech a four. Has Texas, KSU l, and ISU as double digit seeds. No OSU, West Virginia, or TCU.

Please don't confuse me and WT...I think he'd be at least as offended by that as I am lol. :)

My bad!!! Already fixed, haha!!!

And you are correct, he has the league pretty well represented. I think we have the potential to be a much better team and still have difficulty finishing in the top half of the league.

If I misread your post, I apologize.

We weren't among the last four in in 2018. Had we been, we'd have played a First Four game.

Top 36 out of 351 is mediocre?

If OU gets in as a 9 seed coming out of the Big 12, it means that OU was something around .500 at best in the league.. There are other variables to that of course, but OU has been getting in as a 9 seed and a 10 seed while finishing at the bottom of our league.... In at least one of those cases, I believe we came in as the 10 seed in the Big 12 tournament.. Meaning last place. Like, actual last place.

This is where the disappointment comes in... I have stated this many times, but I bet most would agree with these program objectives:

  • Play well in your non-conference schedule
  • Compete for regular season championship
  • Compete for Big 12 tournament championship
  • Compete for a first round bye in the Big 12 tournament
  • Defeat your rivals (OSU, Texas)
  • Make the NCAA Tournament

OU has never won the NCAA Tournament. The program started in 1908.. So in 111 years that has never been accomplished. That means OU needs to hang banners, entertain the fans, and recruit future talent by accomplishing the other (more achievable) program objectives...

The past few seasons, OU has really not been meeting any of the program objectives. They have been making the NCAA Tournament, which is an objective, but with pretty much no chance of a run... Sweet 16, Elite 8, etc.. Making the tournament gives you that chance, but no other program achievements are coming close to being met.

That is my take.....

NO. If Lon has upgraded the program at center then there seems to be most everything else to be a 6 seed and likely better. I'm not suggesting a 1 or 2 seed but a outside chance to also contend for the big 12. I'm often trying to tap down expectations around here but this roster is the best since Buddy and Isaiah. If there isn't an upgrade at center then shame on Lon and the staff, we could still better a 9 seed.

I’m actually excited about this team and the players coming in. That usually means disappointment but, I’m excited nonetheless.

I could see a scenario where OU has a great season and gets a 4-6 seed. The big12 will be tough this year and, outside of KU, there will be a dogfight for 2nd-6th place in the conference.

We weren't in the first four Trae's year, we were the last at large not in the first four. Point still stands being one of the last 5 teams in is barely getting in.

Last year we were the last 9 seed. The play-in games were 11 seeds. we were in a little more comfortably last year. No auto bids were 10 seeds last year so we were in the last 9 but not as close as the year before

i'd probably take it. hope for better since all ya'll tell me we are going to be better and such. [big smile].

i grew up in Norman and my dad has had the same seats in LE 5 since LNC opened....he even tried to walk on for John McLeod at OU.

sweet 16 is kinda my benchmark for a good season and OU hoops.

i like lon but we do need to not suck out loud in feb and conference play this year.....for him not to put himself in a warming seat, maybe.
