We spend a lot of time here griping about what the team could do better and complaining about recruiting. And yet, right now, we have a team that is ranked in the 20 top in the entire country, and I bet most of us agree that ranking is deserved.

Let's get some more good vibes goin' on in here. What do you like about this team?

I'll start with a few:
1.) Chemistry. These girls clearly love each other. No one is concerned with playing time or whether or not that have a starting spot. They are always happy for the success of their teammates. For example: EJ has gotten very little minutes and despite that, she's always standing and clapping with encouragement and dancing gleefully in locker room videos. Each player is full of love for each other.

2.) Lack of turnovers. Even Sherri's best teams have turned the ball over a TON. I can recall multiple games where were a great team and still turned the ball over 20+ times. Over the years, I've kinda written off turnovers as a frustrating and inevitable product of women's basketball. But this team turns the ball over (relatively) infrequently. We value the basketball. Derica and Peyton are particularly skilled at this.

3.) On a related note, we handle back-court pressure pretty well.

4.) Senior play. KayKay is a senior and playing like it. She's the most disciplined she's ever been and fully understands how important her role is. This team will go as far as KayKay wills them to.

I like the fact they are winning. I know that seems simple but that's the goal. The way we came back and beat TCU was a thing of beauty. Confidence breeds confidence. Keep winning and we have a chance to pick off a Baylor or Texas.

You are right, Norm. Winning is contagious. A good percentage of winning is mental.mental.

Even though it is very important, there should be just one mental in the last post. lol

Improved Defensive Play
Depth-different rotations for different situations
Basketball smarts-lots of players have this
Chemistry/Team spirit/Heart-can win no matter what

+1 They have a very good team chemistry/Spirit about them. It could pay off come March.

Last year, and in recent years, we have lost leads late in the game, often due to missing free throws when we should be putting the game away. This team has not yet lost a lead late. We may start poorly at times, but we usually finish strong. The Washington and TCU games stand out because they were late comebacks. But, we have also broken open close games into routs late in the game. Character?

It is also interesting to see who will step up. In the TCU and Washingon games, it was T'Ona that sent us into the late lead. It was free throws by Maddie that clinched it, put it away.

We have had great one quarter responses from Penzo, Treece, and LaNesia. Are any ready to step up on a regular basis?

Actually we are averaging 16 turnovers a game this year vs 17 a year ago. But I think we have had more low turnover games this year than in any season I can remember.

Our help defense is significantly better than previous years. Still need to get back to the shooters a little better.

I think reboundng is better. It seems that we have more people going to the boards on defense. That helps.

Chemistry is always good on Sherri's teams. Sometimes I wonder if having good chemistry gets in the way of dealing with those who are less motivated.

I don't know if movement is better or worse than previous years. We seem to move well at times and other times we stand watching someone dribble the ball. I was watching Treece closely during our comeback. Her big trey was after setting a double screen by Treece and another Sooner. Treece rolled off the screen to the corner and was wide open.

We clearly are showing more maturity under stress and as a result have closed some of the games strong. Should be a major benefit moving forward.

The major problem to me are the decisions. Shots that have very little chance of going in if not going to be blocked. Also passes and dribbling into double and triple teams. Probably worth 10-20 points a game if we can do less bad decisions. Sherri seems to challenge her players to play on the edge but you can still use judgment.

Their fearlessness, they don't get rattled easily.
Not afraid to win.
The development of Kaylon, T'ona, Derica, and McKenna.
All around defensive toughness
They put team play at a premium.
Coaching decisions (substitutions, getting kids attention with poor play, combinations.)

Less lengthy dribbling sessions compared with last year. Better passing. More grit and confidence to keep grinding and come from behind. We have not seen this team's best yet - not by a long shot Maturity is increasing.

I like the fact that there are more girls playing at a high level that we can
depend upon when we need a lift or a rest.

Players are stepping up at different times.

I like our defense, which is the best overall defense we have ever had OVERALL.

The turnovers are just as many, but it seems like we make far less of them in critical periods of the game, which means the players are bearing down. That hasn't been the case in the last few seasons.

I like Sherri's substitution patterns this season. I think she has her line-ups figured out perfectly.

Potential..the entire team (student-athletes, coaches and staff).
When acted upon...growth and greater success abounds. When not...it was always potential.

The team chemistry is awesome.I love the way KayKay is playing. The team defense is not bad.
