What Should Our Starting Lineup Be?

After last night I think it's pretty clear Lon is going with the starting 5 of:
Young
James
McGusty
Doolittle
McNeace

Is that the lineup everyone here wants?

Personally I'd sub out Doolittle for Manek. Manek has had a confidence issue lately but it's pretty apparent he has better chemistry with Tre than Doolittle does.

The change I would be the most opposed to is putting McNeace back on the bench. IMHO he's really grabbed the starting position by the horns the most. He had some silly fouls last night and still made a big impact on the boards and scored 9 points.

I think Manek may be our spark on offense off of the bench the remainder of the season. He’s better than Doolittle on that side of the ball, but he is not as good on defense, which seems to be where Lon’s focus is right now. IMO, Doolittle’s 7 points and 7 rebound was enough to keep his spot in the starting lineup, at least for now.

I agree with Lon's lineup. Let Odomes come in for a little defensive boost and some driving to the left ... and Manek come in for spot-up offensive push.

As I suggested in my thread, "On the right track", I like the current lineup. I just think that it gives us the best chance to win. Gives us two interior defensive players, gives us more offensive options. I theorized it would free up trae, and also free up Manek, by taking pressure to score off their backs.

Manek, odomes and Lattin are still key elements of the team.

I also think Mcgusty and Doolittle may regain last years form once they have gotten some extensive minutes/playing time. They looked more comfortable yesterday then at Kansas, which is to be expected.

This should be the starting lineup. Odomes should be the sixth man coming off the bench bringing energy. Something is wrong with Manek. I don't know if it's just the freshman wall or if he has been sick for the last few weeks but it looks like he has no energy and gets tired really quick. Lattin needs to realize that he only has a few games left of his career and play like it. Shepherd is the backup pg but he needs to be aggressive when he is in there.

I like this lineup the best. We're not going to become a great defensive team overnight, so play your best scoring lineup. And I think our defensive intensity and focus improves when we make shots.

Swap Manek for Doolittle. Doolitle just isn't good. The only one that absolutely has to stay as-is is McNeace. He's miles ahead of Lattin. The minutes breakdown there should be like 32-8. It is good to see that Kruger has finally cut out the bottom of the bench.

Not sure why there’s still so much love for Manek - when the guy isn’t making shots he’s such a huge liability defensively and on the boards that he just kills us. Having him come off the bench where you can see if he has it offensively that day is the best scenario at this point. Doolittle will rebound the ball at the very least.

Lattin might be marginally better than McNeace on defense. But McNeace is so far ahead of Lattin on the other end that McNeace needs to get starter’s minutes.

Manek was leading the team in rebounding in big 12 play before the lineup change. If you want to talk about no defense let’s be sure to include TY and Mcgusty at the top of the list. No defense and no effort to play it.

As long as Odomes, Doolittle and Lattin/Mcneace are in at the same time. That gives us no shooting. Odomes played a little at the 4 yesterday and I kind of wish he would do that more often.

I'm with you here....I like Odomes at the 4 at times. I really think it depends on who we are playing. If we play teams that go small (KU, Tech), then Odomes at the 4 works well. However, if we play teams that are a little bigger (Baylor, Texas, WV), then I like Odomes at the 3. He has been inconsistent on offense the last couple of games, but his defense alone warrants him 28+ minutes per game....IMO.

I'm hot/cold with Manek. He shows up in the stat sheet surprisingly well at times, but other times, I'm cringing when he is out there (missing shots and slow of foot).

I would like to see this to see how we would match up with
Young,Mcgusty,Odomes,James and Mcnease

RE: Doolittle at the 4.

Was listening to the Zach Lowe's podcast the other day, and the conversation was fascinating. Basically, the Rockets have been having James Harden guard the other teams 4 a lot. This is a double win for the Rockets, because it gets the opposing teams big men to back down Harden into the low post (which leads to inefficient post shots), and Harden is actually a good low-post defender, despite his short size.

There is no reason this can't be the same for Odomes, and I'd love to see Kruger working on this moving forward. If you can get a smaller guy who can play dynamically on offense but also guard the post, you can create matchup nightmares. That's the way the game of basketball is going, and I'd love to see us adopt this.

those 4 with either lattin or mcnease is very interesting and would be our best unit on D

wish we had done that more this season

I actually believe James would be the better option at guarding 4s. He's really strong and that leaves Odomes guarding the best perimeter player, just put Odomes at the 4 on offense.
