Re: Whining
I think most of us let what is happening in the moment to blur the reality of the total game. I remember in the Dayton game thinking that we just couldn't defend the three point line. Dayton shot only 25% from there for the game. That is how emotion can overcome good judgment.
I coached basketball in the military, in middle school and high school in Oklahoma for a number of years. Consequently I probably overanalyze the game. A forced shot early in the clock, failure to block out on rebounds, not rotating on defense to protect the basket, etc. will cause a quick reaction from me.
But if I ever use profanity toward our players and coaches, claim they are stupid, don't work, never practice free shots or otherwise insult them I hope you call me out.
Any player who has reached the Div I level has worked hard to get there and has to work hard to stay at that level. There is just too much competition for other than the very elite talents to even make a school team without hard work. My granddaughter is in the 7th grade in a Dallas metro area middle school. She had not played before and made the B team for the 7th grade inspite of the fact that over 100 girls were trying out for the 3 7th grade teams. In that area they have A, B, and C teams for every middle school grade. In North Carolina there is one team of usually 12 girls vs the 108 that are playing middle school ball in Texas. Wonder why they turn out turn out so many good athletes in that state?
Anyway the point is that however good it is that my granddaughter made the B team in her first effort to play the game she will have to practice countless hours to continue to play the game.
I never post on game threads or even follow them until after the game. As irrational as my thoughts are during the fray, I have no interest in exposiing how irrational I can be to the whole world. Yes there is a ton of whining in game threads but the line is crossed when personal insults and profanity is directed to the players and even the coaches.
