A team finished second in the conference without a player making the all conference first team?

I know we don't have one star for the media to latch onto, but I think it would be a bit of a slight if no one gets the nod.

Yeah...but who do you give it to? Would love to see it happen but no one deserves first team recognition. Maybe Hield.

How about the league's leading rebounder and someone who basically averages a double double?

It's happened twice in conference history.

Texas in 2003-2004. Brandon Mouton was a their top player at 2nd team All Conference. First team Big 12 was Wayne Simien(KU), David Harrison(CU), John Lucus(OSU), Tony Allen(OSU), and Andre Emmitt(Tech)

1997-1998 Oklahoma State was #2 with no first teamers also. They had two 2nd team all conference guys in Adrian Peterson and Brett Robisch. Desmond Mason was 3rd team all conference that year. First team conference that year was LaFrentz and Paul Pierce of Kansas, Tyronn Lue of Nebraska, Corey Brewer at OU, and Cory Carr at Texas Tech.

OU is just so balanced that I'm not sure we get one. Hield has the best shot.

You can't possibly believe he is one of the best 5 players in the league, or best 2 big men. He just isn't.

Ejim only averages 0.5 less rebounds per game, but beats Spangler in points scored per game by about 9. Those 9 points are worth far more than that 1/2 rebound.

Embiid is only 0.5 rebounds less per game, scores more than Spangler, and is the better defender shot blocker.

There just isn't a case for Spangler I'm afraid.

What a good problem to have... All these guys are great for our team! I know everyone would trade all-conf honors for a 2nd place in the toughest conf and a run in the tourney!

Patience. OU will have a 1st team all-conference player when the current group of sophomores become seniors. Buddy seems like the obvious choice, but the possibilities for the continued improvement of Cousins on both end of the floor ....; well, its intriguing.

There should be some 2nd team recognition for a player or two this year .. Heild and Spangler?

When this team was touring Europe back in August, who could have predicted that OU would be in control of its own destiny to finish 2nd in the conference standings? This has been a nice season, with more to come.

winning should be the biggest part of first team ... if numbers are close ..

first team should be

Ejim
Embiid
Wiggins
Hield
and then take your pick from Kane Clark and Foster

second team .. those left over 2 ..
Staten Smart/Brown and Taylor/Holmes

3rd team Spangler Harris Brown/Smart Jefferson and either the other texas player or Perry Ellis

I thought first team all conference was about who the best players are, not anything else. We have a good team and some really good players, but no arguments about 1st team.

Kane and Staten are both better than Buddy at this point in their careers if we're being honest. Both can create their own shot and score almost at will. Buddy cannot. He can hit open 3's and drive if there's a lane (still not great at finishing around the rim, he'll get better at that). Luckily we have a really solid team through and through, so we don't have to have anyone score quite like Kane or Staten can.

Staten is one of the best players in the league. Just doesn't have much around him. If Huggins gets some players around him, he has a chance to be nationally recognized. I just don't know if that will happen.

The more I think about this, the more I think I would be okay with us not having a first teamer. For one, I wouldn't mind our players having a chip on their shoulder. More importantly, I think it is a testament to the depth of the conference. There are too many talented players to not slight someone. I think the fact that no one on our team is the clear go to man will end up hurting us. We may have 3 guys on the all conference second team/honorable mention, though. So I think some of our guys will get recognition.

It feels good to admit you were wrong sometimes. :D

staten has the 2nd leading scorer in the league next to him ...

but someone has to score .. and they are it for WVU ..

winning is what matters ..

Staten should be 1st team. 2nd in scoring and 1st in assists.
