Who are your top 5 choices for the job?

why do we all hafta conform?

3 is plenty

Tubby hasn't exactly set the world on fire at Minnesota. Could his prime be behind him?

Very true, although who does much of anything at Minnesota? I would still take a national title winning coach that's not really that old.

Recruiting is Tubbys weakness, we would need to bring in a stud recruiter as an assistant. I'm ok with this.

I like Tubby a lot as a coach, but we need more than Tubby has to give right now.

We actually need a guy who will stay at the practice facility for weeks at a time...sleeping on the couch.....working tirelessly....eating delivery pizzas and plotting...busting tail til we are back in the black.

1. Buzz
2. Rose

a gap, then..

3. Boyle

a much, much bigger gap...

4. Marshall
5. J. Jones

1. Anthony Grant
2. Buzz Williams
3. Lon Kruger
4. Tad Boyle
5. Mark Fox

1. Tubby Smith
2. Buzz Williams
3. Tad Boyle
4. Chris Mack
5. I will coach the Sooners for 1 million per year and retire after 3 years. Big Time, Cool, and Sam will be my assistants. I strongly advise someone prays for choices 1-4

If we have to go to a mid major I like both Cuonzo Martin and Gregg Marshall.

With all the rumors I am seeing I do see the Sooners forking out the cash for the highest quality coach out there, this bodes well for Buzz supporters.

My list looks like this:

1. Buzz Williams

(huge gap)

2. Everyone else

Agree with this.
"Everyone else" could produce a great hire but it's a huge risk and the odds are low.
Throw Marshall/Smart/Jones/Martin in a hat and pick one and odds are you lose.
Hopefully there are other/better names on Joe's list that no one has thought of. Most likely there are.

I had 3 but it is down to 2

1.Buzz
2. Evans

The reason i would want Evans above the others is because if we are going to reach like all other but Buzz would be IMO, the he is the one IMO. He played here, has connections in texas through Skeeter Henry and Jeff Webster, and he WANTS the job. He WANTS to be here.

I had 3 on my list, and thought everybody else was a reach, or at least a risk. They were 1)BCG(gone) 2)Pastner(apparently gone) and 3) Buzz(sure hope he is the man). I just think we have to get someone with an in to the slimy AAU scene in Texas to recruit good consistently. I hate that it's come to that, but it has I guess.

I'll say it again, we have never, ever relied on recruiting Texas. Tubbs relied mostly on Juco's and Oklahoma kids. Kelvin recruited Texas even less than Billy.

It's a complete fallacy that the coach has to be able to recruit Texas. If he can, great, but it doesn't need to be a prerequisite.

1.) Buzz Williams
2.) Terry Evans
3.) Johnny Jones
4.) NA
5.) NA

Please no Terry Evans. Id rather have Geno.

Not sure why some of you are so enamored with johnny jones either. His teams aren't that particularly well coached and IMO he'd get smoked in this league. He HAS had some good players, but we can't rely on decent recruiting to make a mark in this league when we're up against top notch recruiters with proven systems.

Colston, I don't disagree that you can get by without Texas, but it would sure make things easier if we could get some players there. If not, you have to get really lucky in Oklahoma(and our kids are all goin to play for Self at Kansas now, that wasn't so much true even 10 years ago) and the jucos are JUST not as strong as they were when Billy was coaching. Times DO change, and I just think right now we need to be able to get a couple of good Texas kids in most classes, then cherry-pick from jucos, local, and around the country.
