Getting close to the halfway point of the non-con. Who has surprised you the most so far on our team in a good way?

Me:

Christian James. I had no idea how versatile he was and I love his confidence, maturity and his jump shot. He is going to be a perfect Kruger/Oklahoma player by the time he is done here.

You?

Lots of good surprises.

Of the new comers, probably james

Woodard has suprised me with his quick start

Spangler has surprised me with how much more confident and complete of a player he has become. You can just tell that he knows he is a bad@$$

Woodard for me... Seems quicker and is shooting the ball better. I think he is more of a leader for this team too. Love what Spangler is doing though too.

I agree with the above, but I would add that I'm impressed and pleased with Spangler's increased aggressiveness. In seasons past, he was pass-first and shoot only now and then but now he's taking those open shots much more often -- in the post, on the drive and from deep.

And I wouldn't say I'm surprised by AK, as I didn't really know what to expect, but I'm certainly pleased by what I'm seeing from him.

Woodard's shooting from perimeter and his ability to finish inside. He looks so much quicker now. I also think he increased his vertical by a few inches in the off season.

The biggest surprise is Christian James. I knew he was good, but I didn't expect him to play this well coming off of a serious injury. Some even thought he might redshirt. He has not only proven himself worthy of more minutes, he is a very nice addition to our rotation. I would easily put him in the top seven right now.

Maybe this is cheating, but I'm surprised by the reliability of everyone thus far. I trust this team so much more. I trust that we'll take care of the ball; I trust that we'll get a basket when we need it; I trust that we'll get key stops on D. And, maybe most of all, I finally trust our bench.

Jordan Woodard and its not close. Hes much better than last year.

I would say Buford bc we talked about how big of a loss it was too not have him last year and yet he's at the bottom of the depth chart this year.

I'm really impressed with the 4 returning starters and their improvement.

Lots of options. Woodard, Spangler, James, Manyang are all good choices but I think McNeace. I thought he was going to be the last off the bench and he might e d up being the first and certainly doesn't look like he will be last.

spangler's jumper .. it is smooth and hitch free .. and looks great ..

Spangler 3 point shot and Drive.
Woodard is definitely quicker and smarter
I am a little surprised that Buford and Odoms are not playing better.

I would say his sophomore year he got the vast majority of his points on put backs, finishing breaks and guys giving him the ball in great scoring position. Last year he started to show some diversity. I think this year he is going to show a lot more.

I think Odomes is playing pretty well. I like his aggressiveness, and think he is a very good passer (has surprised some teammates). I think he might be the best slasher to the basket on the team. JMHO.

I'm impressed with all the newcomers so far but the level of competition is about to get tougher.

For me it's Manyang. You never know how these Juco guys will turn out, especially big men and coming off his foot fracture. Not to mention that he has the best FT shot for a 7' I have ever seen. If he can stay healthy then we can beat the big boys this year! KU going down in Lawrence, I would love to go this year.

I agree.

against Wisc he made a couple mid-range J's that reminded me of Larry Bird.

not really :D, but they were nice plays you didn't see from Ryan before...dribble and pop.

I'm most surprised by how hard this question is. It's like Christmas morning for Sooner hoops fans. . . :lon

Has to be James... All the talk about him being maybe the #1 2 Guard out of Texas if not for the injury really were probably true. Kid can really play and is aggressive.
