Why can't Sherri get to the scholarship limit?

For years OU has had endowed scholarships for 15 players yet it seems that the team always comes in with 11 or 12. When you have so many injuries like have beset this team it puts everyone in a precarious position. It looks like the roster is down to 8. Lets hope for good news on Whitney.

It is almost like OU does not want to honor Title IX by not giving scholarships.

I agree with you but some on here don't think we need any more players.

Agree too!! No excuse for a program like OU.

Because Sherri and her coaches have lost the recruiting touch and can't close the deal on big players.

I am afraid that is the opinion I developed after this very subpar class.

By the end of this season we could be replaying the movie Hoosiers.

Sherri's got to get back to the maximum over the next two signing period.

Your anguish is heart-felt, but not very well informed. Full rosters are a rarity. Exactly one team in the Big 12 has a 15 player roster (West Virginia). Three other teams started the season with the same size or smaller roster than OU.

Baylor, who should have no trouble signing scholarship players has 13.

If we had 13 I'd be thrilled.

If all of these teams are under the limit, then somebody does need to scream about Title IX. They should not be limiting men's sports scholarships by making things be equal if the women are not going to use them. There is no excuse.

The irony is that Coach is limited to 13 scholarships yet he has a roster of 17.

Was not aware that she was not using all of her ships, that is just pure stupid on her part

I guess that makes all the other coaches in the Big 12 (except for West Virginia) stupid also, huh?

Yes, it is dumb not to use scholarships. Even dumber with this program's long history of season ending injuries. It's going to be a long season. And yes, if those other programs lose 3 players to injuries their fans are going to question the scholarship issue also.

We currently have 12 players on scholarships! While a coach might expect to see a couple have injury problems I don't think anyone would plan on losing 4 in one year! I never saw much from Jeffcoat although I thought Zander had potential, but, I do not know what the other issues were.(we never know in the women's program). More than 12-13 seems to me is probably a waste of a scholarship unless you are a Ucon where someone would be more likely to take a redshirt to play a year later. Talented players want to play NOW.

Has Sherri ever excepted a Transfer? I've only been a OU since the 05-06 season, but I've never seen her take a player in unless they were from the JR college rankings.

About 10 years ago she accepted a girl from Southern Nazarene (I believe they were a NAIA school at the time). Her first name I think was Teresa and the last name starts with an S but I can't spell it. There may have been one or two others but not many.

OK, so I number crunched over on SF.com about how 15 can suddenly turn into 8. So, here goes, without the silly Paint sketches:

15 players!

- 1 (Yancey kicked off the team as freshman in 2010-11)

- 1 (Jaq Jeffcoat transfers in offseason)

- 1 (Zander transfers in offseason)

- 1 (Harden transfers in offseason)

+1 (juco transfer Portia)

-1 (Lyndsey back problems forces her to quit basketball)

-1 (Kay Kay ACL tear in offseason)

-1 (Manning knee injury in Hawaii)

-1 (Whitney Hand ACl)

=8 active players that are not injured nor transferring

Is it a result of bad recruiting? Not really, just not a lot of retention once we get players here and a lot of injuries to deal with. It's similar to the Stoops/quarterback transfer situations --- every quarterback that's transferred under him would have likely started if he had not transferred out early, and as a result, we've started some players before we expected to (Landry after Sam Bradford went down in 2009), or just unexpected to play QB (Paul Thompson after the Rhett Bomar offseason stuff of 2006), or just really, really unbelieveable luck regarding ACLs (Jason White in both 2001 and 2002).

FWIW, OSU only has 11 girls on the roster and one of them is out with an injury so they are practicing/suiting up with 10 right now.
