Why did Vitale say OU has never had a POY?

What rock has he been under? He said during the game today that Buddy would be the first POY at OU as not Tisdale or King ever won it.

He must have dementia.

He had Simmons envy and doesn't care about anything that's not Dookie related!

Did Blake Griffin win, or did they give Hansbrough the lifetime achievement award?

Dick is a moron and needs to retire and take corso musberger with him

According to Mr. Google, these are Blake's college awards:

Awards
——
John Wooden Award
The Naismith Award
Sporting News Player of the Year for college basketball in 2008-2009
Associated Press college player of the year
Big 12 Conference First Team
All Rookie First Team

Dick was still suffering from the stroke he had when Simmons reverse dunked it.

I thought he slobbered on Buddy wayyyy more than Ben tonight.

I am just glad he likes us again. It is fitting that he forgot Blake because he didn't have anything to do with OU in 08-09.

Hate him or love him, he is still good PR for the program.

He is an idiot. I have been looking forward to his retirement for about 20 years.

he also said we were an "outstanding" ft shooting team which is not at all true. 71% as a team. Spangler is our 3rd best at 68%. Buddy is at 90 and Woodard at 83.....after that pretty big drop for "the team" to Ryan. Cousins has always been iffy at the line, he's at 60. i suppose in today's stat-geek world that could be shaped according to who shoots the most FT's.....but, point to fact, we are not an "outstanding FT shooting team". i muted him and Brent right after that.

days are way past when announcers or commentators actually say things that are true....it's just about shaping the moments for consumption, splendid hyperbole.

and for kicks i looked it up, we are #86 in FT shooting, through games of 1/29.

According to this, Wayman never did win it. King won TSN in '89, & Blake swept them in '09.

Yeah, I knew Wayman didn't win it but Dick's quote was "Hield will be OU's first ever player of the year. Wayman Tisdale, Stacey King or <another name I couldn't hear (I think it was Mookie)>...". Then he went on to explain how Tisdale did not win it even though he was a fabulous college player. He mentioned Olajuwon, Ewing, Jordan and Perkins as all playing when Wayman played to that's why he never won one.

Dickie V was definitely off with that remark. He's never had much to say about Blake Griffin, positive or negative. Wayman was amazing, but so was the competition. He would have had to play his senior season to win that award (which he would have assuming good health).

If you're an OU fan and don't like Dickie V, you're probably thinking along the lines of "The guy couldn't stop raving about Ben Simmons. Yes, he's the first pick of the next draft. We get it! And yes, that was the most amazing dunk known to mankind!...good grief."

And if you're an LSU fan who doesn't like Dickie V, here's what you're telling everybody: "Buddy Hield this...Buddy Hield that. Yes, he's the greatest player in America. We got it after the first 100 times you mentioned it! He's the second coming of Stephon Curry...good grief."

He did tweet later that Hield was getting his vote and Buddy would be OU's 2nd POY after Griffin. So, somebody alerted him he was wrong and he attempted to correct it.

Good for him to correct it.

We were going off on the missing Blake as POY and noticed Dookie V appears to have a championship ring on his right hand? Did Duke just give him one?

I agree! Don't know why ESPiN thought collegiate sporting events needed someone with chronic diarrhea of the mouth (Vitale, Corso, Holtz, etc) to analyze games, etc. Even if they were slobbering all over OU all the time, I'd be sick of them! Just NEVER ENDING drivel!
