Team is awful, cancer everywhere, players transferring....

I remember when Lebryan Nash signed with OSU, bocabull said "something must be wrong with him" and sure enough, the guy is a clown and even the OSU fans hate him.

And if he is (fired), do they make Self an offer he can't refuse to come home or is it Scott Sutton time in Stoolwater?

I would put it close to a 0% chance he is let go, just look at his contract.

I think Ford was Holder's first hire, so I bet Holder will give him another year. Holder hated the Sutton's, so I doubt he would hire Scott if he did fire Ford.

Serious question, would Self really leave KU to coach in Stoolwater? I would think he would be crazy to leave a perennial basketball power to coach at a mediocre school.

I think he gets another year, at least.
Self ain't coming, and neither is anyone named Sutton.

I think (but am not 100% sure) that Holder's first hire was Kurt Budke.

But yeah, Travis Ford was his first "major" hire.

And this idea that Holder "hated" the Suttons is an internet-message-board-perpetrated myth.

The more accurate sentiment is that the Suttons hated him. Mainly everyone knew about Eddie's (and later) Sean's "problems." Mike Holder was the only person who confronted either of them about it, and neither of them liked that very much.

Even with a host of defections in Ford's rearview mirror, his new contract and signing Marcus Smart practically guarantees that he will be back next season. No way Holder cuts him loose and takes the chance that Marcus will ask out of his LOI.

Having said that, though, something is seriously wrong in Stoolwater. Reports of turmoil, players leaving or being forced out, not to mention a subpar performance by a team with plenty of talent, is an all too familiar story I'm trying to forget. :facepalm

I am quite confident that Self does not consider OSU a mediocre school given the fact that he went to OSU. I do think Self recognizes that KU is one of the best jobs in the country but I really doubt he has anything but positive feelings towards OSU. Would he leave KU? Who knows. If he has any thought of breaking the all time wins record he won't. If he coaches until he is 70 at KU he will probably break that record.

they can not afford to fire him .. osu still has massive debt on GIA

From what I am told, from an OSU donor I know, Ford will probably be fired after this year. I say probably only because there's a 1 in a billion chance that OSU has an amazing turn around and ends up making the NCAA.

This!!! Alfalfa's not going anywhere for quite a while!!! They're a football school now and don't care about basketball!!!

Seems like it would be incredibly expensive to buy out Travvy's contract and then go find a good coach for a replacement.
I don't see Scott Sutton working for Holder, nor do I see Holder hiring anyone named Sutton. If they fire Ford now, I don't see how they can afford to go get someone like Kruger. That long contract with Ford really kinda put them in a spot.

I also doubt Scott would not take the job with Holder as the AD.

It's almost as if the aggies are trying to go through all of Pickens fortune before he dies.

I know that money talks, but it's hard to imagine a really high quality coach wanting to take a position where his real boss is a donor, not the AD or university president.

You can't keep a coach around that keeps under performing this badly. I think a year ago I was pretty much in the group that felt Capel should be fired just based on his record. But I didn't think Joe C would pull the trigger. I think that's pretty much the case at OSU now. It's a matter of if Holder will pull the trigger.

I'd be shocked if he doesn't get next year. First, this season is far from over, and he hadn't missed the postseason two seasons in a row, let alone at all, like Capel did. Not that the NIT is some great achievement, but it is a hell of a lot better than sitting at home.

Plus, Ford has a good class coming in, and worst case scenario with this season, and they miss all post season play, then I think he still gets a 5th year. If there are two straight seasons of no tournament berths, then I'd probably say he's gone.
