Maybe we needed a wake up call regarding handling the press. Against Iowa State they made much more use of Osby to break the press. Good strategy. If they try to double him with guards he just throws the ball up court over them and if they put a big on him he toasts them becase he is usually much more mobile than any big the other team has.
The press hurt us against Texas because the turnovers usually led to scores. But 16 turnovers while high are in of themself not enough to blow a 22 point lead. The main culprit was that we were intimidated out of running our offense and that led to poor shot selection.
That as well as some of the turnovers has to be on Grooms. Unfortunately he followed his best game of the season with his worst. Nice comeback against Iowa State though.
I think Kruger may have been the best option out there for turning our program around. His recruiting for the level of OU's program seems good and I really admire the way he has brought this team around. With Buddy we beat both OSU up there and Texas and would be 12-4 now,
Having said that I think the poor execution against the Texas press has to go partially on him. We had had enough trouble against the press that we should have been more prepared against Texas, particularly when their press allowed them to make a late run in the Norman game. Also we took forever to get ready to throw the ball in against Texas which allowed them time to set the press up. Not so against Iowa State and we made much better use of Osby against Iowa State. Of course poor exection by the team has to be a major part of the problem.
