Points of Interest tonight

--Will Kaykay Williams come out with her pants on fire rebounding and scoring-after a bench visit last game?
--How long can she play without foul trouble?
--Will team play show more confidence and verve?
--Start Nicole or Peyton? and how will those two respond to line-up change?
--Almost to conference play- Time for freshmen with lots of playing time to show mental growth-Gabbi and LeNesia plus our back up centers...finals over, and plenty of practice time lately

I still am going to enjoy this young team and watch them progress.

I heard fourth hand it was a one game sit down-never heard the word suspension, only "coaches decision". I ASS U ME she will play

Gioya with 9 points early … good to see her playing very well.

Just looking at stat link, it seems from the play-by-play that the starters were
KK, Sharane, Peyton, Carter and Little. Does anyone know if this is correct?

EDIT: see that tycat posted the starters at the same time as I posted my question
so this is back to the original starting line-up when season started, I believe

Peyton and Gioya have played pretty well in the first half. A little more life and confidence than they have shown earlier this year. Kay Kay came on. Gabbi is quiet, as is Sharane. Maddie had a nice first half.

The individual stats are a bit fouled up. Maddie had two nice assists, being credited with zero.

We aren't blocking out well.

Yeah, a little concerned about our defensive glass. Yale is approaching (or may already have) double figure offensive boards.

Well, the broadcasting team picked Kay Kay as the player of the game. I would have given it to either Gioya or Peyton. They kept us in the game. Kay Kay did kind of drive the final nail into their coffin. But, Gioya had 17 points, six rebounds, and four assists, although she did have four late turnovers. Peyton was six of eight from the field, six of six from the free throw line, and had three rebounds. Good games for both.

Sharane disappeared. They credited her with eight rebounds, one assist, three turnovers, and zero points. I think she had two of her shots blocked. Nicole was zero for five from the field, zero of four from three, with zero points, two rebounds and a steal. Zero points from Sharane and Nicole hurt.

When Gabbi made yet another turnover, Sherri pulled her. It looked like Maddie was going to get some extended playing time after a pretty good performance in the first half. But, she came up lame after a rebound. She still dove after a ball on another turnover, but came out when time was called. Hope that isn't too bad.

Gabbi: zero points, six turnovers. That pretty much defined it. She, as Tubbs says, only sees the ball, not other players.

Yale did get within two late in the game. Gioya and Peyton led a charge that put us back up by about ten. Kay Kay sealed it late.

Sloppy defense at times. Didn't block out at times. Yale did pass well.

We were nine of ten from the line.

Nice bounce back game for Little, I'm happy to see her moved back in to the starting line up, I still think she shake out as the team leader when all is said and done, she didn't have any assist tonight, but we know she's a good passer/play maker so I hope this translate to conference play.

I think Maddie is ok. Gabble dribbles way to much. Big 12 is going to be tough for OU.

She had an assist. The scorekeeper missed it. Missed a couple for Maddie, too. I think Gabbi got one of them.

I get tired of the blocked shots we seem to suffer. This staff apparently teaches that we should never fake a shot. Historically we're not a good rebounding team but I think it's imperative that we learn to do so to make headway in the conference. I'm glad to have KayKay turn a good second half. So much to improve to be competitive.

I just watched this and am thankful that Yale can't shoot FT. I'm glad we won but am glad we weren't playing Baylor or Texas.

We made 90% of our free throws. Thank goodness!! We will have issues if can't distribute shooting and get control over rebounds. But it's really good to see Peyton put up 18. She could do that every night.

Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems to me that many of us refuse to give Gioya the praise she deserves. I realize that she still turns the ball over occasionally, but she is absolutely the best passer on the team and she's also beginning to find her shooting stroke. Last night her jumper was deadly from within 15 feet.

It would not be inaccurate to say that Carter was the player most responsible for OU's win last night, though Kay Kay and Peyton played well also. Her shooting was superb, and very timely, and her passes into the paint to Kay Kay (and others) were some of the best I've seen in years.

I've been a fan of Gioya since her first game as a Sooner. It looks like the faith Sherri had in her from the start was justified. Can't wait to see if Carter's improvement continues into Big 12 play.

I think Gioya went through a rather long bout of whatever it is that Sharane is now going through. She was taking shots off balance and missing very badly. She was passing into a crowd or to people that weren't there. It was bad enough that Sherri had to bench her. It also seemed to consume her energy, and she wasn't as active in moving as she had been last year.

Last night was a Gioya that we really haven't seen this year. She took the right shots, and she was right on target. She was passing to people. She had a bout when they caught up in which she went back to making a couple of really bad turnovers on passes to nobody. But, she rebounded from that. She was one of two keys, the other being Peyton.

Sharane has suddenly started doing this in the past three or four games. Last night, she took shots that weren't open, like she was depending on getting a foul. Her passing recently has been the worst on the team. She did rebound well last night. But, she was a turnover waiting to happen on offense. If we didn't get the ball into Peyton's or Gioya's hands, we kind of had difficulty last night. Gabbi had six turnovers, mostly passing to whatever. I think Peyton, Gioya, and Maddie were the only ones capable of making a decent pass that might lead to a score last night, and they also were doing the scoring. Kay Kay got a lot of cripples by sealing off her man. NOw, if she would do that on rebounds.....

Gioya played well as did Peyton and Kay Kay, and most of the team played with more energy and more aggressiveness than in the past. There were lapses in intensity during the game, but some may have been due to so many players playing. Treece had a nice game, and even Sharane and Nicole played good defense, but shot poorly. LaNesia played good defense but seemed a little off also. Nice to see Gioya and Peyton take the role in this game of scoring when we needed it. Several players made nice passes inside, and Kay Kay and M Treece took advantage of them quite well. Maddie seems to be getting more into BB shape and looking better but still a ways to go. T Williams seemed steady leading the team backing up Gabbi.
During one positive spurt we had, players were 2 sophs (Peyton & Gioya) and 3 freshment (Gabbi, McKenna, LaNesia). Future looks good but youth will have ups and downs.
