Why do you think Sherri is playing so much zone when time after time the other team is getting wide open shots?

Too many fouls Especially hand check fouls. And i don't think this group is ready for man to man. They let the offense slip by them.

I tend to agree with this. Every possible foul was called as Plum blew past us. The Kentucky game was absurd with fouls. We got a lot of silly fouls against South Florida. Hand check fouls caused us problems tonight.

We don't do a good job of keeping anyone from the basket. But, we have also played some teams that do not shoot threes well, only to have them shoot lights out against us.

I thought Kentucky had a problem with our zone. When we went back to man they just blew by us and scored.

This team is a long way from establishing an identity.

Which KayKay will show up? Maybe Vionese and Treece should get more minutes. They are at least consistent and their minutes are not. Vionese played a total of 4 minutes in the first two games in the tournament. Treece played a total of 32 minutes and scored 11 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

Then tonight Treece only played 5 minutes with no boards and no points and Pierre-Louise played 10 minutes and scored 8 with 2 boards.

Both seem to play effectively but I don't have a clue what the plan is for their use.

Maddie seems to be totally out of sync or is unhealthy.

Little looked shaky tonight. Seemed afraid to take a shot.

Our offense seems to be dribble around the arc under pressure, long skip passes and drives into traffic. No one seems to get open for the kind of shots Illinois was getting. We get an occasional brilliant pass in the middle for an easy score but we get a lot of turnovers trying to go inside with both the dribble and pass.

A lot of the problem is probably due to so many newcomers and it seems Sherris is still searching for her rotation. It doesn't help that we are getting so many fouls. that really disrupts any plan.

The offensive need a lot of work... It's a lot of one on one and people just standing around watching...

Standing around watching and dribbling around the top of the circle.....Sounds like last year! Please not again but this team had a different motor. It needs more discipline on both offense and defense. Mere experience doesnt bring discipline it needs Sherri to impose it until it becomes natural.

i would like it if she played 2 big players at a time. But the foul situation may get out of hand.

I agree with you. We just are not quick enough to stay in front of our offensive man against athletic teams and therefore Sherri believes a zone is our best chance of stopping dribble penetration. The problem with that is, a couple of quick passes and they are shooting wide open 3s as we are slow closing.

I really don't think Sherri cares about players standing around. If she did, she would have stopped it a long time ago. Telling players to move or you will be on the bench is not rocket science. These girls are smart. IF they believe playing time hinges on whether they move without the ball, they will grasp that concept in about 3 minutes and move like there's no tomorrow. Heck, we had to move without the ball in jr. high. I'm pretty sure 18-22 year old college students can listen to that same instruction and apply it to their game with no problem. Either Sherri does not demand movement or we have a bunch of players who choose to ignore her and continue standing around. I think it's the former.

I also do not believe Sherri worries a great deal about turnovers. I don't think she particularly likes turnovers but I don't think she loses sleep over them either. If she did, players would sit for turnovers. The only player I've seen sit down as a result of turnovers is Maddie.

I think she benched Gioya over turnovers. I haven't figured out why she seems to have benched Maddie. Everyone was making more mistakes than Maddie this weekend. I think she expects more out of Maddie.

Sharane was pulled at one point over turnovers. She had a horrible weekend on turnovers, most off of passes that were intercepted. Twice she cost us a turnover by handing the ball to Ortiz, the last time with 1.1 second left under the Illinois basket. Actually, she did make a very short pass to Ortiz that time, and it was knocked out of bounds off of Sharane by the Illinois player who reached in. I expect Sharane to be smarter than she played this weekend. She made some horrible passes.

Even Gabbi was pulled at one point for making turnovers, really dumb ones that probably cost us the Kentucky game. She just wasn't kept on the bench for very long because everyone was fouling out that was put in for her. Gabbi's bad passes led to seven straight Kentucky points that fueled their end of game charge. She has to learn not to be lazy with passes in D-1.

I don't think Sherri had a choice last year. I think that she has subbed quite a bit due to turnovers this year.

I noticed in the Bradley game that Maddie jammed her knee and winced. She came right out of the game although she returned later to play a few minutes. Her lack of playing time indicates to me that her knees hurt and/or that Sherri doesn't want to take the chance by pushing her hard at this point. She's not played enough to make many mistakes. It may also be the case that she's lost quickness due to her knees and if so, that it will take time for her to fully recover. I recall that Whitney played through a lot of pain her entire junior year.

If Maddie is hurting, I'm a little surprised the announcers didn't mention it. They did mention the injury to Kornet limited her playing time. I did notice when Maddie was loose with a pass Sherri immediately took her out and I didn't see her again. It appears Sherri has Maddie on a short leash right now.

I'm not sure what the situation is. Half or more of Maddie's turnovers are due to someone making a mistake with their hands, for which they credit Maddie with a turnover. Two or three are charges, at least one of which was a bad call.

Crippled or not, Maddie is right now the only player who seems to be able to pass the ball wherever she wishes. She can make the entry pass. She often gets the rebound. If Sherri is irritated, Sherri needs to reexamine it. I don't think that is the case. I think something is wrong. Until Gabbi learns to get inside, we need Maddie.

I think Maddie is still hurt/not 100% recovered and probably is never going to be. I feel terrible for that kid.

Right now, I just don't think she has that much to offer. She's done some nice things, but she isn't scoring or shooting at all anymore.

I'm beginning to think her basketball career is never going to be what it was.

You could be right. Maddie has said she's 100% but, if so, she is sure having trouble fitting into Sherri's system.

An interesting facet of this team is that with the exception of trading Campbell for the new post next year, the team will be intact for two full years. The year after that, we have two impact players coming in, and we'll still have eleven current players on the team. If Sherri has a concern that Maddie needs to proceed very slowly in her recovery, it may be because she is thinking about her long term future and that of the team. Better to have her at full speed a year from now or two years from now than to have her chasing Kentucky around right now.

Maddie may be a bit rusty. The announcers, like Tubbs, have said that she is an outstanding shooter from outside. She simply hasn't done that. But, I don't think that has been her mission thus far. She is our passer and penetrator, theh best we have (including Gabbi), and getting the ball in circulation.

Something is holding her back. It may be rust. It may be Sherri. What I have seen is that she is still the fastest we have on the dribble penetration. The idea that she has lost a step isn't really indicated yet. Frankly, I'd like to talk to Sherri to see what is going on.

Maddie tore Her ACl twice. She isn't going to come back scoring 15 ppg or playing 35 minutes. It may take her all season to get back to what is comfortable with and playing without fear. Physically she says she is ready but is she mentally?
