Four in the mix for Akolda Manyang

Will he come in with 2 years to play 2, or 3 years to play 2, anybody know?

I have been wondering how we have been doing in his recruitment. Pretty excited to see what he could with Lon coaching him up.

I'm sure it's 3-2, but he'll play immediately. He's a force offense and defense.

He won't need 3. A reasonable chance he only stays a year. This kid is a player.
I wish he was signing early because the big boys will have guys turn pro and start to go after him.

Longar still lives in Norman so it should help our chances.

So if Thomas has to sit out this year, who goes to the bench the following year with these bigs on the roster:

Spangler
Thomas
Buford
Lattin
McNeace
Manyang

I'm going to guess that if Thomas can't play this next season, be back off in our recruitment with Manyang. Can't see him choosing to come here with that much competition either. The kid is solid, but some of you are talking him up a bit much at this point.

Thomas and Manyang would be the starting bigs.

Well ahead of "solid"!!

Buford plays more 3, spangler and Lattin off the bench, red shirt McNeace that year. I know a 2nd year red shirt isnt Ideal but thats what I would do.

I think that the 7' kid, (Olyenik ?) from Gonzaga that was drafted was a 2nd year redshirt. Thomas may not get his waiver. But, that is one of those things that I would have to see to believe. I just feel as though that for some reason they liked their chances when recruiting him.

I'm probably in the minority on this, but I'm just not sure LK will risk pissing off Lattin/Buford, or possibly even McNeace, for a year or two of Manyang. Without Thomas? Sure. But with him, I just don't know.

It'll be interesting to follow our recruitment of Manyang AFTER we know Thomas' status. And I still say it's a moot issue, b/c I don't think Manyang will want to compete for playing time with all the good bigs we'd have on campus. In other words, even if we continue recruiting him, I think our depth will scare him away.

Fine line between adding talented players for a one year shot at a deep run, and constructing your roster in a way that allows for continued success without a major rebuild.

You may be right. All of these things can be hard to predict with limited info. I can only relay what one of the recruiters said to me in recent memory. He said, "we are a 7 footer away from being able to play with anyone."

I don't think Thomas and Manyang would cost us anyone. I just don't know about McNeace as a prospect. Buford, I think is projected to be at least a Buddy level talent. Lattin, in time, is probably thought of as a draftable NBA level talent.

My guess is that McNeace will turn out to b e a good "program" guy. The kind that works hard, developes, gets better, and is content to wait for his turn. Buford will probably be good enough to get good minutes at some position from the start.

Lattin and his people probably wouldn't tolerate him being lost in the shuffle. But, they are knowledgeable enough to be content with him being on a positive development and playing time trajectory.

They are recruiting him very hard and will continue until he commits here or elsewhere.

This guy would give Lon and the crew something that they haven't had...

Hopefully LL can help his cousin "see the light"

Lon has said we need a culture of recruiting kids who are better then we currently have on the roster - without competiton for roster spots you don't get better.

I don't pretend to be an expert on basketball but I know one thing, Spangler won't be coming off the bench.

If Thomas sits out this year and we get Manyang then my guess would be Spangler off the bench.
