$1,000.00 Bounty

The idea that this board has been so bad of late that it needs to be "weeded out" is questionable at best. Under the previous coach (and on the boards that were active at the time), we saw more whining, complaining, and finger-pointing after close wins than what we've seen here after the worst basketball season in three decades.

Honestly, can you imagine the meltdown if this season had occurred under Sampson's watch?

The vast majority of posters have been reasonable in commenting on this horrific season as it progressed, and the ones who have complained don't remotely compare to the haters during Sampson's tenure.

So the very premise -- the motivation -- behind the bet is beyond skewed.

Great post and so very true.

Capel has proven himself to be a good coach when he has the talent, and I think that the talent is there next season.

While there wasn't the #1 player in the country on this year's team, there was more than enough talent to finish better than 4-12 and posting a losing record.

Part of "proving you're a good coach" is holding a team together and getting guys to play hard for you when you hit stumbling blocks during the season.

I agree with you. This season was worse than any under Sampson.
I think the difference, certainly with me, is that I genuinely like and respect Coach Capel. So, I'm trying my best to give him the benefit of the doubt.
I can't say the same about Sampson.

Is it simply the phone calls?

I think he got a bad rap as a person. I've met him numerous times he is as nice as any coach I've met of big name coach's.

Of the coach's I've met...

Nicest coach's: Self, Sampson, Lon Kruger, Tom Crean, Tom Izzo

Biggest dick's: Steve Alford, Bob Huggins, Roy Williams, Bob knight (stunning)

John Klein from the Tulsa World described Kelvin as the guy you sit down and have a beer with. I have heard nothing but great things about Kelvin as a person. Even with all of the phone call issues I am still a big fan of his and always will be.

Not really the phone calls at all. More the response to them in that instance.
Just the arrogance wore on me. And the lack of recruiting hard during the summers always bothered me a bit. Just really can't point to one thing but over the years the attitude and arrogance wore me down. Sampson was the reason I started liking OU basketball so maybe that is one of the reasons I lost so much respect from the attitude.

Agree 100%. Grew up going to Coach Sampson's camps amongst various other Big 12/SEC camps, and he was the nicest coach out of all of them.

Strangely enough we're family friends with both the Selfs (mom was sorority sisters with Coach Self's wife Cindy at OSU) and the Wooldridges (mom and Coach Wooldridge's wife Annie grew up together in Drumright) and both of them always had nice things to say about Sampson. On the court people can have their opinion of him, but from my understanding and my experience with him he is a good guy.

Did you ever meet him?

You don't like him because he threatened KU's supremacy in the conference. Just like I didn't care for Tom Osborne, Roy Williams, and now Bill Self.

We're all adults here, Cheno, you can admit it.

My dad thought the world of Kelvin and his family. He used to go to practices and sit with Kelvin's dad Ned and dad said Kelvin was the nicest person you'd ever meet.

These people who have problems with Kelvin personally probably have problems with most people...JMO.

I think the last 3 OU coaches have been the most fan friendly coaches anyone could have back to back to back. I can see not liking their styles from one to the next or not like something in their coaching but as far as relationship with the fans you can't have 3 better coaches.

Am willing to put $ $1,000.00 on the line (total) to anyone willing to bet that OU does not win 19 games next season.

For example, if 10 people take my wager and are successful, then I owe each of them $100.00...however, if I win, at my choice, those that lose the bet either pay me money, or quit posting on an OU "fan" board.

Takers?

Willing to limit it at first 10 who want to make that wager and note that as of today's date, OU's "best player" is still undecided on NBA and I have no idea what recruits are coming in.

Will be happy to place money with an admin on this board.

I just spoke with your mom and she says your piggy bank has a 1,000 pennies in it, not a $1,000.00. :vitale

Tom Izzo is the best coach of that group IMHO!
