11/14/2018: Early Signing Period Starts Today

I could see Polla or Freeman transfer, other than that I'd be pretty surprised unless Kruger forces them out for not going to class or something like last year. I'm with WaymanFan in that the only position that would attract somebody would be an impact Center.

The team really likes Freeman... maybe Polla, too. Freeman already used his redshirt but maybe he could be a grad transfer .... don’t know how he sits with his credit hours. Freeman has been getting a lot of minutes in the first couple of games.

Those 2 and possibly Kuath are really the only 3 who would consider transferring IMHO. Heck, Kuath and Polla might be our centers next season and split time.

I should have qualified my statement about Reaves by saying it
was an OU coach that told me that

Honestly, I think we lose 2 to transfers. Id say we get a 4 man like the guy from houston (thomas)?

Backup PG, imagine Calixte coming off the bench to relieve Harmon next year. I know its not as attractive, but if its for an elite 8 run then maybe they buy in.

Find the most elite shooter on the marker is what I would do. along with a PF.

I would love to get another TaShawn Thomas.... a rugged low-post player. I’ve also heard that Austin Reaves is the best player on the current roster. The kid is a stud..... and can shoot.

If Polla and Freeman are back next year I will be greatly surprised.

Either or both leaving, though, would not attract a grad transfer. A grad transfer would be looking to start like Calixte or be the first off the bench like Reynolds.

A coach told me that Williams might be the best player we signed. I have not seen him so I am going on his word. Reaves is the best player on the floor in practice but needs to add some strength for next year. For what it's worth, that again comes from a coach

I hope they’re right about Williams, although I’ll have to reserve judgment. I know his juco won the national championship, but it was Division II juco. He averaged 13.8 ppg, 6.7 boards, and 2.7 assists per game. I’m just guessing it’s a big jump in competition to go from DII juco ball to playing against Power 5 D1 players. Maybe not any tougher than going from HS to D1 players...... it will be fun watching him adapt.

It’s difficult for me to imagine anyone besides Harmon being the crown jewel of this class.

I could see Freeman also transferring to a DII school where, I think, he could play right away without sitting out. Or maybe grad transfer. Or maybe turning pro in Europe or back home. It would make some sense if he decided that he had tried big-time college basketball in the US and now he was ready to play. I could see something similar with Polla.

I would think a Reaves-like transfer would be preferred next year -- someone really good who would sit out a year and be ready to play big minutes year after next. Maybe a big guy to take over for Doolittle or Kuath.

How would a good grad transfer at center not start next year?

He likely would. I was referring to the other four positions. Someone other than Freeman or Polla would have to transfer if there was going to be a starting position open.

I think many of you (us) place wayyyyyy too much importance on positions.

Kruger plays with 3 guards, a stretch 4, and an athletic center. So as long as you know what he usually plays with then you know what positions would be open, players play, etc.

I'd say thats also too specific.

thats how you classify it. he might say different and he might do different. why don't you ask coach what he thinks about the positionless evolution of the game going on?

That's a good point. But he's also shown an inclination to put a wide-body down there at the 4 and slow things down (Thomas).

The Polla thing always puzzled me, I guess you can throw a scholly bone around, but I'm saddened that Freeman appears to be a miss. He appears to be made for the modern game, but most observers agree that he can't guard a soul.

I had high hopes for Freeman, too. Thougt he could maybe turn into a poor man's Dean Wade. Seems like he lost confidence in his shot fairly early in his freshman year and has never gotten it back. It's obvious now that he is second guessing himself even when he is open.

No one missed the mark on Freeman more than me. I was certain he would be a star after reading recruiting guru Eric Bossi’s review of his performance in a high school all-star game in California the year he committed to OU. Bossi seemed to be certain of that, too. He said Matt would be a four star recruit if he had played in the U.S. I haven’t given up on him completely, but time is running out on Freeman and on me.

Polla is another matter entirely. I was so desperate to see a big on our roster with some meat on his bones, he had me fooled. His skills on offense and on defense are so limited, I have all but given up hope that he will be the player I had envisioned this time last year. I realize he has plenty of time to prove me wrong, and nothing would make me happier than serving up a healthy dose of crow to myself.

Agreed. Coaches these days think in terms of bigs, wings, & ball handlers rather than the traditional 1-5 scale. You are who you can guard... period.

that was the same statement used when I listened to this discussion the other day on some coach's podcast.
