11/14/2018: Early Signing Period Starts Today

Kruger plays with 3 guards, a stretch 4, and an athletic center. So as long as you know what he usually plays with then you know what positions would be open, players play, etc.

Except, Doolittle isn't a guard.

Normally, I would agree with you though.

Yeah he's more of the stretch 4 (with the drive, not the shot).

Position-less basketball is getting more popular, but that doesn't mean OU is doing that.

If Polla and Freeman transfer the coaches could recruit a grad transfer center by saying we have Kur and Merritt but we need a starter like you? It could happen, I just find it unlikely.

Wilfred Likayi, the 6'10'' juco forward that OU has offered is averaging 19 points, 8 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks per game this year through 6 games.. Shooting 40% from 3 and 84% from the foul line.

He remains uncommitted.

1.2 blocks per game over 6 games. thats 7.2 blocks total. I hate it when someone blocks a fifth of my shot. Someone blocking a fifth would leave WC Fields outraged. Groucho once blocked someone in his pajamas. How they go in his pajamas we'll never know.

I was wrong , I now think it's likely perhaps very necessary. Doolittle should not be a starting center in the B12, it says a lot about why this team is having issues. This has nothing to do with Doolittle's talent just that there is no one better to play the 5 than a undersized 4-3. I see Kur in warmups and a bit of video and he seems healthy but he's not good enough to beat out Muni.

I don't get it...

wv can get a 6'10 250 lb FRESHMAN center that looks like a stud (double double today) and we get a 6'9 190 juco that has to RS because of a bad back and can now actually see the rim because OU got him glasses...:facepalm

I had so much to say last fall about our recruiting (actually a lack thereof), I’m sure everyone here got tired of seeing me complain. I was not happy that our coaching staff had failed to take advantage of a final four run by bringing in quality recruits to replace the players we lost. They were settling for projects or juco recruits who were not ready to contribute anytime soon. While Lon Kruger is ultimately responsible for the recruits we sign, I blamed, and still do, his assistants for the players we were bringing in.

If every member of the 2019 class makes it on campus, that class should be a huge improvement over the previous two. Problem is, two straight seasons of practically wasting valuable scholarships (with a few exceptions of course) put us behind the eight ball in continuing the momentum we enjoyed during our final four run.

I agree...but I disagree with blame not going to kruger.

#1 he's the HC. He HAS to sign off on recruiting these guys. This is BASKETBALL...crap we recruit at most 10-15 guys...knowing only getting 3-5. Riley seems to be in on ALL 23-25 MAIN football recruits they target. He gets paid 3+ MILLION dollars a year. THERE IS NO EXCUSE.

#2 He is the HC, he HIRED his assistants...including his son.

Those two seasons after the Final 4 run seems as though the recruiting hit a shaky stretch of missed opportunities.Kruger lost two longtime assistants then & replaced them with questionable hires. That may be some of the problems we are seeing now,who really knows, but the final say in recruiting should fall on the head coach & he .Go sooners!!

Lon doesn’t get a pass with me by any means. That’s why I said he is ultimately responsible for the recruits we sign. You added his responsibility for the assistants he hires, which is where I focused most of my attention, perhaps too much to tell you the truth. Crutchfield is the only assistant with a proven track record in recruiting. The jury is still out on the others.

Recruiting mistakes happen but what is it with Lon and the 5 position? Every other position has had ups and downs which happen to most programs even blue bloods. Given that many years there were only a few ships to offer, Lon could personally work thru plenty of potential kids to decide who to offer despite the assistant coaches, including the previous group of assistants.

I think many of you (us) place wayyyyyy too much importance on positions.

Less important in the NBA game, but I think it is still relevant in the college game. NBA teams have 3-5 guys with sufficient ball-handling skills to run the team, but I would guess most college teams have 1-2 guys. For most college teams, when the primary PG isn't in the game they are in trouble.

NBA teams also have 6'9'' guys who can play 5 positions... that just isn't true for most of college basketball.

Sorry...lots of frustration (CAPS)...LOL.

Lon is a great guy...I had some small contact with them while he was at ksu and kevin was in ele school...a very good coach..he's lasted a long time and been decently successful whever he's been. The reality is he doesnt stay long...maybe this is why. He's had SH with him for a very long time...

Hiring his son was a major mistake in my opinion.

We have to get big guys who are stronger. The rest of the guys have to be able to handle the ball. The last 3 years we haven't had more than one or two guys who can dribble. It just isn't conducive to winning.

It has also been unbelievable how we haven't had any leadership since the Final 4 team. Jordan's illness cost us his senior year as a leader. Last year TY was a great player but wasn't part of the team and certainly wasn't a leader. All of those juniors who are now seniors have turned out not to be leaders either. Some of it is the guys who could be leaders just aren't talented enough.

We have to get stronger, tougher and better ball handlers on the team.
