2015 PF Mason Riggins

Looks like things are heating up on the recruiting trail.

Like him already. He has tweet saying he's tired of Marcus smart flopping.

Does anyone know if we are chasing a point guard? We seem to have some inroads on all other positions, but I think we'll be in trouble we don't have a viable back up for Woodard.

I agree. Think Hornbeak has outplayed Woodard the last few games. Finally has shed the rust.

I completely agree. Woodard has had some rough games in conference and Jelon is getting back into form. We'll be awfully good at that position when both of them have a good game in same game.

Good looking prospect.

Wouldn't think this kid would be a priority, depending on how the rest of recruiting goes.

That 2015 class really needs to be guard heavy with us losing Hield, Cousins, and Hornbeak that following year, and there being no guards in the 2014 class.

We are also in on a lot of big time guards for that 2015 class. Trier. Shake. Grandstaff. And a couple others.

There is probably room to take a guy like Riggins if we do nothing else this year, but if sign a JUCO big man, or possibly even if we land the SF Allen, I gotta think a big man in the 2015 class becomes something that isn't as important.

Jelon is NOT a point guard, though he can certainly fill in admirably when Woodard is hurt/tired/playing poorly. I love me some Jelon Hornbeak and want to see him continue to play well; but Jordan Woodard is our point guard – and will likely be so for the next three years.

WT,
I disagree you always add height/length and athleticism to your roster when you can.

Not at the expense of having a lopsided roster, and/or taking lesser talented/needed players. Not saying that is the case, it is too early to tell. But I expect us to take two guards in that class (2015).

Hornbeak seems viable to me.

Agreed. Any concerns we might have had a few games back when Je'lon had just returned from his injury have been erased by his play of late. He'll be more than an adequate back up at the point, as well as a player who can give us a bigger option at that position if the match up dictates the move.

I'm not opposed to signing a scoring wing or a big next month as kind of an insurance policy, providing he is capable of contributing right away. A quality D-1 transfer is another possibility I would support. But, if a player like that is not available, I think we should save the ship for the 2015 class.

I'd rather wait and see what we can do in the 2015 class, as far as getting another "true" pg to backup Woodard. By that class, or certainly by 2016, we should be able to go after another top 100 type kid, and they won't have to worry about backing Woodard up for 3 years. Hornbeak, when healthy, is more than capable in the backup role. And I expect Woodard to be even better next year.

I think it's natural for Woodward to have hit a freshman wall, which may explain his play of late. The difference between Woodward and Hornbeak is Woodward has an instinct for either setting up his team mates or making a play himself. Hornbeak seems to often to press the to make the play himself. As a back up, Jelon suffices. But i think another true point will could do nothing but help us.

I understand them going afer Tum Tum because he could have came in and battled Woodard for the starting position, but if they sign a guy just to strictly be Woodard's backup then I'll be disappointed. Hornbeak is doing a great job of being the first guard off the bench as either the 1 or 2. Would rather see us use it on a D1 transfer, a late gem, or just save it. Unless a D1 transfer or late gem (Cousins/Booker) get signed I would rather save it to sign 2 wings in the 2015 class.

I think we get D'angelo Allen.

Woodards TRUE FRESHMAN season has been fantastic, a future star the next 3 years.
Even if we brought in a stud true PG ,odds are he would sit on the bench /transfer. No elite PG will touch ou for the next couple seasons, you can take that to the bank.....which is a good thing.
A really good combo guard in hornbeak will be perfect the next two seasons,he can run the point just fine in a backup role.
With Jordans growth the next year , hornbeak wont see the point baring foul trouble/rest for Jordan.
Woodard will be a multi year all conference guy and will break some Oklahoma records after 4 years of play. A great great get.

We arent even recruiting an PG till the 2016 class.
