2020 Recruiting

If I see him hanging around KC, I will put on a KU shirt and be a total jerk to him. Let him know what to expect if he signs with the bad guys. :dance005:

well, MAYBE....but I doubt anything comes of the news about ku...the possible sanctions will influence him...

Buddy. Some KU fans, in hindsight, like to pretend that KU didn't "really" want him. Those fans are wrong. :)

Yes and no. He was a low priority for them. Bill Self has publicly said that one of his biggest regrets was not pursuing Buddy harder. Since Buddy was not a national top-100 recruit, that would be someone OU SHOULD be able to win going up against the Blue Bloods.

Yep. KU didn't go after Buddy hard until very late in the process, and even then, it was more as roster filler/bench depth. Meaning, they already had a good class, and were just rounding out the roster after missing on some other guys. They didn't press Buddy very hard throughout most of the recruiting process. That's pretty well known.

That’s how I remember it as well, I think even Buddy has mentioned that KU came on late.

I'm not saying your post isn't accurate, but that's a pretty self-serving way for Self to describe it. The implication is that heck, if they'd wanted him, they could have had him, as opposed to "I sure wish he'd come to KU."

Exactly! And even if they didn't make him their top priority, the fact is they offered him a scholarship and wanted him on their roster, so it's a little frustrating that our own fans act like we only got Buddy by default. My recollection of Self's comments are more along the lines of him acknowledging that he didn't realize Buddy would turn out to be the best player in the country, but I don't think he ever said anything to suggest they just recruited because they had a scholarship left to fill.

You really enjoy twisting posts like a soft pretzel. No one says we got Buddy Hield by default. Furthermore, most would acknowledge that coaching a team to the Final Four without a single national Top-100 recruit was a thing of beauty. The case here is simply drawing a line in the sand between beating a Blue Blood for a recruit that EVERY program in the country would die to get vs. beating a Blue Blood for a guy that a school like Kansas would look at as an end-of-the-bench or rotation-type player. If you can't see the difference, that's on you, not us.

I think Buddy was ranked as high as #85-90 in some recruiting lists and borderline top-150 in other lists. Frankly, it was a great piece of recruiting for Coach Kruger, but I expect to win more than our share of recruiting battles against Blue Blood programs for that type of player simply because OU could offer IMMEDIATE playing time. The irony in this case is that Buddy would have sat on the KU bench in 2013 because they had a Burger Boy in Ben McLemore...and 5 years later, Ben McLemore was sitting on the end of the Sacramento Kings bench watching Buddy Hield play :-).

Ou Still fighting for Bryce. Ou fought for Trae till the end. Will do the same here. UNC has stepped up its game again.
