Denzel Aberdeen, a 6-foot-4 shooting guard out of Dr. Phillips (Fla.) High School, tells On3 he is down to eight schools – Oklahoma, Texas Tech, Georgia Tech, Florida, Ole Miss, Iona, Virginia Tech and Minnesota.

Aberdeen has not yet taken any college visits, but he is currently in the process of setting them up.

Surprisingly enough, Denzel Aberdeen was offered by all eight of these schools this summer alone. Prior to this July, he didn’t have a single Power 5 conference offer.

Aberdeen discussed each school with On3.

Oklahoma
“Coach (Porter) Moser and coach (David) Patrick reached out,” Denzel Aberdeen said. “It’s a great program. Moser is a good coach. He tries to get players ready for the next level. I saw recently that they’ve been some work into their training facility so it’s nice over there. They have a good style of play too.”

Texas Tech
“I know coach (Corey) Williams and his son,” Denzel Aberdeen said. “We used to play together in AAU back in middle school. He’s a good coach and he sent me some stuff on what they do. I like their style of play and how they play. They showed me how I’d fit in and all that stuff. They really preached development, which is the most important thing. “

Georgia Tech
“They are the ACC champs,” Denzel Aberdeen said. “Coach (Josh) Pastner and coach (Julian) Schwartz reached out. I’ve seen the love that coach Pastner has for the guys on his team. He preaches player development a lot, a lot to me. He says I can be one of the next great guards out of the ACC and says he’s gonna work me every day.”

Florida
“I know Tre Mann who went there,” Aberdeen said. “They really developed him and there was a big change from his freshman year to his sophomore year. It’s close to home which is good, too. They’re only about an hour and a half away. It’s in the SEC, one of the best conferences.”

Ole Miss
“I like how their style of play is fast,” Aberdeen said. “They play uptempo and they have great guards. Their development is great, too.”

Iona
“We all know Rick Pitino’s history,” Aberdeen said. “I know he has the tools to get you to the next level and he can help prepare you to get there. He’s one of the best coaches in college basketball.”

Virginia Tech
“Coach (Kevin) Giltner reached out,” Aberdeen said. “I like their style of play and they have a good education system as well.”

Minnesota
“One of my former teammates, Abdoulaye Thiam, goes there now,” Aberdeen said. “He said he likes it up there and that they have good facilities.”

Glad we are last visit, wish there was more time between decision and visit. Seems awfully close to his decision date, but maybe that will help OU if they knock it out of the park. Wonder if Trae will be in town and could "run into him".

Nick Smith Jr., a 6-foot-4 combo guard out of Sherwood (Ark.) North Little Rock told On3 he has a new list of suitors. Smith will no longer consider the professional route and has cut the NBL and the Overtime Elite league. Memphis and Arkansas Pine-Bluff have been added as their replacements.

Kentucky, Alabama, Auburn, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Kansas round out the rest of the list.

Nick Smith has already taken official visits to Alabama (June 1-3), Auburn (June 4-5), and Kansas (June 20). He also took an unofficial visit to Arkansas Pine-Bluff on August 22nd.

The original plan was for Smith to announce on Nov. 20. Smith says he is now unsure of when he will announce his college decision but plans to still complete the rest of his visits — Kentucky on Sept. 2, Arkansas on Sept. 12, and Oklahoma on Sept. 18 — before making his announcement.

On3 went in-depth with Smith in a previous interview.

Oklahoma: “Coach (Porter) Moser, what he did at Loyola-Chicago with the guys that he had, he really turned that program around. He talks to me about me being the guy that he needs for his program, that he wants for his program and he’s recruiting me to be a captain. He always tells me that he wants me to leave a legacy at OU and that I’m his guy. He thinks I could come in and have heavy minutes as a freshman with how well I shoot the ball and can space the court. He just thinks there’s a great spot for me in his system.”
