Would not shock me to see an offer go out soon.

Coach, you agree?

Brendan Hausen is at the top of my wish list! Maybe it’s because he’s from Amarillo, the home of one of my all-time favorite Sooners, Austin Johnson. I also like the way this kid plays the game. I think he has a huge upside.

More on Hausen

Amarillo High sharpshooter Brendan Hausen has seen his stock soar after a terrific month of July on the AAU circuit.

The 6-foot-4 combo guard tied for a Peach Jam best 38 made three-pointers to end a very successful July. Hausen ended the 2021 EYBL Peach Jam as one of the leading scorers, averaging 17.6 points per game.

The offers followed with each standout performance. Creighton got the party started July 18. Villanova, Oregon, Arizona State, Penn State and Virginia Tech have since followed.

According to Hausen, nothing will change with his stock soaring.

“It will be the same thing I have been doing my whole life,” Hausen told On3. “It’s a day by day thing. Consistent everyday. It’s nice to finally be noticed nationally. And bring notice nationally to Amarillo High,”

Prior to the rush of July offers, Oklahoma, Texas Tech, Vanderbilt and Nevada were prioritizing the Texas Panhandle guard. Hausen made an unofficial visit to Oklahoma this week with plans to begin narrowing his focus.

“I’m starting to narrow it down a little bit. My family and I have been talking about what we like and don’t like about schools. I don’t know when I will release a list of five or seven schools yet,”

Next up will be setting dates for official visits, and that will come quick.

“I’m leaning to making my decision in late September or early October, so I’m setting up official visits right now. Villanova will be in September. Oregon and Oklahoma will be in September. I’m talking to Arizona State. I will probably go back to Texas Tech too,”

If there is one school that has the potential to disrupt Hausen’s recruitment, it would be Texas.

“I think I’m next up at Texas (to be offered). It’s a definite possibility that I would visit Texas if they offer,”

When it comes to what position college coaches see Hausen playing, there isn’t one answer.

“They don’t really know. As well as I shoot the ball, they like me off the ball. But they know I can handle the ball as well, and can be a combo guard for them,”

As Hausen point out, his day-to-day will continue be consistent. That means working daily on areas he needs to improve.

“I just want to show people I can guard. That I’m a willing defender. My body is still catching up, so I will keep getting more athletic.”

Oh, I guess Hausen already has/had an offer. Got one in 2019. I just didn't remember. Oops.

Makes sense for why he's interested and visiting twice in a span of a couple of months.

I assumed porter would re extend since that was kind staff in 2019.

After helping to lead Brad Beal Elite to the Peach Jam championship game against Team Final, Class of 2022 combo guard Nick Smith Jr. is taking a break for a while.

The 6-foot-4, 185-pound combo guard from North Little Rock (AR) High School has recently added offers from Kentucky, Tennessee and Florida State, while Duke and Maryland have been in touch.

“I haven’t been going in deep on my recruitment, just little talks and stuff,” Smith said by phone.

He will take an official to Arkansas Sept. 12 and Oklahoma Sept. 18, and plans to announce Nov. 20.

He broke down a few of his suitors.

Oklahoma: “Coach [Porter] Moser is a great dude. I’ve been talking to him ever since recruitment first started because he was at Loyola. I’ve known DP [David Patrick] since he was at Arkansas. he wants me to come in and be the focal point of the program when I get there. Just coming in, bing me at the end of the day.”

Arkansas: “Same goes with Arkansas. I’ve been knowing Eric [Musselman] since he came to the program, so that’s pretty much the same thing. They want me to come in and be the focal point of the program.”

Kentucky: “Coach Cal [John Calipari] was calling me a lot, texting me a lot. He feels like I can be a great combo guard. Playing with Kentucky, you’re going to play with other great players. That’s just how it is at Kentucky. He feels like I can get to the league playing there and stuff and just going from there.”

Of the Kentucky offer last month, he said, “It’s great to get any offer. It’s a blessing to get recruited by any school and Kentucky was one of the schools i was looking at. It’s an honor, but at the end of the day it’s an honor to be recruited by any school.”

Alabama: “I liked the visit. It’s the same thing. They want me to come in and have the ball in my hands from day one. “

He has already taken official visits to Alabama (June 1-3), Auburn (June 4-5), Georgetown (June 11-13) and Kansas (June 20).

“All the schools are pretty much the same,” he said, “Just trying to see what best fits me with the culture and stuff.”

Smith averaged 25 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists as a junior at Sylvan Hills, which went 24-4 and won the Arkansas 5A-Central Conference regular-season conference title. He transferred to North Little Rock in July.

As for what skillset he will bring to college, he said, “Whatever the coach needs me to. I try to win as many games as I can. I feel like I’m a really good teammate, I can be a leader. I can basically do whatever the coach needs me to do. i can do it all.

“I just have to pick the right school and the right fit.”

Smith would sure be a nice pick up. Going up against some big dogs in recruiting though.

AJ Storr to St. Johns.

Losing track of targets, so I'll try to make a list. Any mistakes, someone left off, etc, point them out.

Most realistic options IMO. Visitors, newer offers, less heralded, etc.

G TJ Cardwell - offered in 2020
G Denzel Aberdeen - offered July 19
G Milos Uzan - offered July 23
G Otega Oweh - offered July 27
G Brendan Hausen - offered in 2019 (Kruger) - UOV on Aug 2 & OV in Sept
G Nick Smith Jr - offered May 4 - OV on Sept 18
G Dyson Daniels - offered May 9 - Aussie. David Patrick.
G/F Rylan Griffen - offered in 2020 (Kruger)
F Terrance Arceneaux - offered July 27
F Jordan Walsh - offered May 28 - OV July 3
F/C Jaxon Kohler - offered June 11

Less realistic options IMO. No visits planned, bigger offers, etc.

G Anthony Black - offered April 28
G Jaden Schutt - offered April 27
G Brice Sensabaugh - offered July 19 - came out with a top 8 after...he didn't include OU.
F Dillon Mitchell - offered May 29

Spoke to griffen family member. Rylan will be on campus in the next few weeks for his official.

Great job on the list, NAIA All-Star! You and CoachTalk make quite a team!

Thanks guys!!!

Shocked we're not going after more frontcourt players.

Shocked we're not going after more frontcourt players.

I could be missing guys. With the change in staffs, some past offers, I'm not sure they're still recruiting some kids.

Take F/C Cameron Corhen for example. Offered by Hartman. I haven't seen anything connecting him and the new staff. Left him off.

Shocked we're not going after more frontcourt players.

We're pretty deep there.

Center:
T. Groves - has 2 years remaining
Chargois - has 1 year remaining
Issanza - has 4 years left (I believe)

PF:
J. Groves - has 3 years remaining
Mawein - has 3 years remaining

Hill could theoretically be a 4, though it looks like he's starting the season as a 3.

Finding a 5 that can backup T. Groves next season is probably a need, but they aren't projecting to be really short on bigs after this season. And given the "game" that Krutwig and now T. Groves have, I'm sure Moser is after a specific type.

We could also use the transfer market.

Have to consider the transfer market every cycle. It’s the new normal.

Peach Jam was a good opportunity for prospects to showcase their talents in front of college coaches and NBA scouts. The prospects that fly under the radar prior to the event, usually aren’t so hidden anymore after flying thru North Augusta.

Brendan Hausen? He can relate.

His 20.4 points per game at Peach Jam left him in the Top-five scorers at the event when it hit the end. He was terrific with Team Griffin’s EYBL program. Once a very underrated prospect, not anymore after competing at Peach.

Hausen caught the attention of college coaches everywhere. He earned offers from Virginia Tech, Villanova, Oregon, Arizona State, Creighton, Penn State, amongst several others in the month of July alone. He landed nearly 20+ scholarship offers in the last two months but capped it off with an outstanding Peach Jam performance.

We talked with Hausen, he told Stockrisers.com his list cut plans, a commitment timetable, who all is in the mix, and recapped his Peach performance. In addition, he made it well-known that he will return for his senior year at Amarillo High School in Texas. Here’s his conversation with Stockrisers.com.

Which schools are heavily involved?

“Oklahoma, Villanova, Texas Tech, Arizona State, Oregon, Nevada.”

Any new interests?

“Interest from Texas right now.”

What was the offer like from Nova? What are they pitching to you?

“Just the history and that Nova is not for everyone but they think that I am the type person and player that could come there and be a huge part of what they are about. And then obviously the chance to win a national championship each year.”

How about Oklahoma? You visited and what was that like and their pitch?

“Just the new culture they are bringing to Oklahoma along with what they have accomplished in the past. They think I am the type of guy that can come in and play big minutes right away. He said he is recruiting me to be a leader in the program.”

And Oregon. What is their pitch and do you plan on visiting?

“Coach Altman believes I can come in and play big minutes with Dior Johnson because we complement each other's games so well. With him at the one and myself at the two and really getting out and scoring some points with each other. Another thing he said was just with the way I shoot the ball and the way I work he thinks he can get me to the next level and he talked about building onto what I already have physically.”

When do you plan on taking more visits?

“Looking into September with officials to Oregon, Nova, and OU. And Villanova will also be making a trip to do a home visit with me and my family.”

So, what should we expect for a commitment timeline?

“Looking at end of September or early October.”

How would you describe your summer play?

“Overall, I feel like I gave all I could and I think people are starting to see that I can play at the highest level. I feel like I needed to go prove myself on a top circuit one time. I got the opportunity and made the most of it and still have a long ways to go. I think this summer was just the beginning for me and can’t wait to see the next chapter.”

How would you best break down your game?

“I think it’s a very polished game. I can do a little bit of everything and I think I’m highly skilled at my position. I can shoot the ball at a high level but I also can create for others and I think people are starting to see that I can play the one or the two.”
