+++++#24 Oklahoma [7-1] vs. #3 Wichita State [8-1] Pregame Thread+++++

Based on what exactly? Forget that fact that he couldn’t hit sand if he fell off a camel. He wasn’t very good defensively either. He goes for every single pump fake in the paint. Muni struggles offensively, too, but at least he defends well and owns the glass. He needs to start.

he doesnt get pushed out of or beaten to position. WSU does a lot of pinning off the ball reversal with subsequent lead passes into the post. it takes a combo of strength and speed to stay up with that consistently and lattin has that. and that part he was doing well. but he couldnt take advantage of it offensively.

Lattin's averaging 10.4 points per game (and he scored eight today), 9 rebounds, 2 blocks and 1 steal per game. He's never going to be a dominant offensive player (if anyone's still expecting him to be, you might want to rejigger your expectations), but he contributes in any number of other ways.

Now that's funny.....:ez-roll:

Lattin?? What do you mean? He had 0pts today.

Sorry, not sure stat I mistakenly looked at.

But my point stands. I just read through the second half of the game in this thread, and had I not seen the game, I'd have sworn we lost by 15. Clearly, Lattin had a bad offensive game today, but the idea that he never contributes offensively just isn't accurate, and that's what many posters were saying.

If McNease and Lattin could improve on offense, then we would be tough.

Lattin needs to be able to at least make a lay up and shoot 50% at the line. He did not look confident at the line.

Yeah, I’m not giving up on Lattin, but his offense was brutal today. Missed 4 bunnies that should have been easy. Seems to have real weak hands. We will need him all season, but feel Jamuni gives us the best combo of offense, defense, and rebounding. But...who starts doesn’t really matter. Just give minutes to the hot hand.

If they could just catch the TY dimes and get the shot up...

bah. we dont need mcneace and lattin to score. we need them to rebound and make a difference defensively. we have enough scoring elsewhere.

Lattin is a senior and it is safe to say at this point.....he is what he is. He is a role player that protects the rim, rebounds and defends.... and can finish on occasion. At times in the past, he has been able to hit a mid-range jumper or make a nice move with his back to the basket. But he should never been counted on to be a "go-to" guy......this is just NOT what he is. He does contribute in various ways, but he has always had issues with consistency. Now that he is a senior, I don't expect this to change much.

Would be nice if OU could count on 10 points combined out of Lattin and McNease every game.
But most games they seem to be throwing bricks at the basket, short hooks, jams etc.

I'll take McNeace's stat line 100% of the time. Other than a baseline turnaround jump shot I can't think of a play he made that wasn't great.

McNeace is out there doin exactly what his skills and athleticism warrant. And it has a definite effect on the opposition. They were having a heck of a time getting the ball past him in the air. He picked off passes, blocked shots, altered shots, and was a presence defensively. thats what we need from him. plus some boards would be nice.

We've mostly had that:
Omaha 22
Ball State 21
Arkansas 10
Portland 19
Oregon 15
North Texas 20
UTSA 19
USC 5
Wichita State 5

They've combined to reach double digits every game but the past two. The odd thing is, it's usually one or the other scoring , not both.

The guy drives me nuts. Had several head scratchers again today. Best athlete in the gym but have to remind myself he didn’t start playing basketball until he was 16. Has come a long way.

I agree that Lattin's performance was underwhelming today, but he will have good games going forward. IMO, he seemed mentally unfocused. McNeece was game changing. Wow, just spectacular! Even Polla had very good minutes when he came in. He changed shots around the rim and got a big RB. James was ice on the line! Wonderful to see that!

i would rather TY take reverse granny style half court shots than to ever see Lattin take another jumper. that was a brutal, indefensible performance today. but tomorrow is a different day...

We want Lattin to score. Today he was out of sync. But OU didn't really need him to score today. It would have been nice. He brings a lot to the table, scoring is a bonus.
