5th starter

Jamuni has the slight edge over Lattin at the moment. This could change daily also they would love for AK to get healthy and be the starter. If totally healthy he would be the guy with the other two off the bench.

Lon usually likes to stick with the same starters. The last two seasons we have had a total of 2 starting lineups. Only 6 guys have started for this team in the last two years! I don't see Lon juggling 6-7 guys in and out. He's consistent.

I am pleasantly surprised to hear that you think Jamuni is a little better than Lattin.
He is athletic, but he must have improved his skill level significantly.

I thought OU had 4 returning starters?

they do and Gary, who goes to lots of practices, says he thinks OU will have two new starters at some point this season. So I asked who he thought they would be. It seems to me he likes Lattin and Odomes but I am not sure because he also indicated McNeese was wearing the starters jersey in practice and seems to like Buford too.

I agree, and am starting to think his length and potential defense might be a great match next to Spangler in the front line. I know Lattin has some of that too, but he seems to be molding more into a 4, while Jumani can be more of a true 4.

I think the other part that makes me like this, is thinking about Buford and Lattin coming off the bench as part of our second unit. Those 2 are talented enough to cause a lot of teams headaches when going against their backups.

Unlike previous seasons, I think the coaches will experiment with a lot of different lineup combinations in the pre-conference season.

I like Lattin/McNeace at the 5 and Spangler/Buford at the 4. With Cousins at PG I could see a big lineup with Cousins/Woodard, Buddy, Buford/Odomes, Spangler, and Lattin/McNeace/AK. I really like that bigger lineup.

FWIW,

Tuesday's practice the starters were: Spangler, Buford, Hield, Cousins, Woodard

2nd team was: Muni, Lattin, Odomes, James, Walker

Muni and Lattin work so much better together.

Cousins handled the press, but Woodard was still the main PG. Both can handle the ball. Woodard's outside shooting touch has gotten so much better though.

Welcome to the board Matthew. Thanks for the updates!

I figured Cousins was just running the show for a short time.

also makes sense that the guy that need more work at the point gets lots of time at the point in practice

Sure. Still felt walker would be primary backup. But if cousins and Buddy are significantly improved in that area, let them do it.

keep in mind that all of conf play last year cousins was the back up PG

Makes sense. If we can get the new and inexperienced (including Lattin) playing before conference well we have a really strong lineup. I know that several (probably all) of them will struggle early but crossing my fingers that several of them develop pretty quickly and can consume a lot of quality minutes - and that the others can hold their own when they get the chance.
