I am not happy with the product right now. But I have to say that it bothers me when coaches jump from team to team and contracts they have prevously signed don't mean a thing. So based on this, I also feel that Universities have to honor the contracts that they sign. So if Capel is still under contract he should get another year. Just to resign him to a new contract unless the product improves.

The Universities do honor the contracts. They pay the guys when the get fired. Sometimes the parties work out a buyout other times they simply pay two people during the remainig terms of the contract.

This.

That is true. I guess it bothers me when a coach signs an extension and then leaves the next year for so called greener pastures. But I guess that is why they negotiate buyouts in the contract for coaches leaving as well.

I feel bad for Joe, who probably wants to bail on Capel but realizes how it will hurt the bottom line of the AD. How many years left in the contract?

Don't feel bad for Joe. He ran the search and hired Capel. It turns out that it was not a good hire. We all make mistakes, so admit it, fire him and try to do better next time.

Exactly. Don't feel bad for Joe unless he keeps Capel for 2 more years as I am hearing.

You know what would stop that? Don't renew your tickets. If everyone on this board who has season tickets emailed Joe and simply said "The product is not something I will pay this much for. Until things change I will not be participating." then the reaction will be swift and absolute.

And really, what are you worried about if you don't renew, that you won't get tickets to the games you want to see? :)

Joe C. can't be happy with the product.

Financially, the question becomes will the revenue lost from ticket sales, tv revenue, donors, etc. be more than Capel's buyout.

In my opinion, it doesn't matter. Capel had five years and the program is a mess. It's time to move on. I am typically pretty optimistic but I don't see the players on campus to make OU an NCAA tournament team, unless Osby is the second coming of Blake Griffin.

Yes, a new coach means starting over but OU is not competitive now so what does the program have to lose.

B/c I doubt a proven coach will want to come here. So it could be hit or miss if we actually get a coach better than capel. Joe C. would have to hit a homerun like stoops

Sadly...I think you are right, but you don't keep Capel just because you don't think any proven coach will take the job. You have to move on and find somebody capable (not capelable :))

This is why I say we hand it over to Terry Evans and give him a shot. He would bring Jeff Webster and Kermit Holmes as assistant coaches, both who are/were involved in AAU basketball and it's their University so they will put a lot of effort to get it back to where it was.

I would like to see them go after Marshall at WSU first, though, and then Evans.

sampson's only has a couple more years of banishment doesn't he?

If Capel can bring in Guerrero and a couple others, than keeping Capel can only help this team. Firing Capel this year would be a terrible decision. If Capel can turn it around next season than keeping him was for the best. And if he can't..keeping him this year is still for the best...b/c the following year will be easy for a new coach to come in and win right away. That team will only lose Washington and Thompson and return everyone else.

You are delusional. And you are basically already giving up on Capel saying this.

Bringing in an alumnus doesn't always solve a problem.
Clyde Drexler at Houston was a disaster as is Sid Lowe at NCarolina State.

What about Steve Alford? or even Tim Floyd(granted he has lots of baggage)?

I haven't given up on him at all. And I haven't wavered once. I believe that we will turn it around next season...but if I'm wrong, then the next coach will at least have a solid team to take over.

Your the only clown here.

You know the old saying...point 1 finger at somebody and you have 4 pointing right back at you. :ez-laugh:
