OU is having their high school team camp this weekend and to cap off today the team played some pick up for about 40 minutes.
These players WEREN'T in attedance.
C.J. Cole
Ryan Spangler
Jelon Hornbeak
Isiah Cousins
I know that Cole, Spangler and Hornbeak are all on campus, not sure where they were today. Also have heard recently that Spangler has been playing well in pick up. Cousins is still finishing up school in NY last I heard, he should be in Norman soon.
Now this was just pick up to 3 and then they reset the score. Also the teams changed often nor was it the most organized game so take this little info for what its worth (likely not much).
Here are just a few things I noticed.
- Buddy Hield was feeling it offensively. Knocking down 3s, getting into the lane, hitting some from midrange. He was simply getting buckets. He's 6'4, strong and a good athlete. This was the first time I've ever seen Hield play live and I was impressed.
- D.J. Bennent, he's in the 6'8-6'9 range, his arms nearly reach down to his knees. Moved well, a little on the slim side, a summer of weights with YoYo should do him good.
- Amath M'Baye, had a slow start offensively, then got his midrange jumper going. He mixed in a few takes where he did some cool stuff in the air to finish layups or dunk it at the rim. Kid is just a big time talent and plays with an equally big motor.
- Grooms knocked down a few threes and a 18 footer. I'd heard in the past that he'd be getting up a lot of shots on the gun since the season ended, so he'll likely have an improved jumper by the fall.
- Of the rest of the players, there wasn't a whole lot of new stuff to be seen. After seeing guys play multitude of games and practice, watching 40 minutes or so pick up isn't some new eye opener. Pledger was hitting threes/doing a little off the dribble, Fitz was doing Fitz things (midrange & what not), etc, etc.
Of the high school talent, the three most notable prospects I've seen are Marcus Foster (6'2 combo guard 2013 Wichita Falls Hirschi), Omega Harris (6'2 combo guard 2014 Putnam City West), Jacob Hammond (6'10 center OKC Sky, new homeschool program ran by former sooner Bryant Vann).
