A new grad transfer prospect has emerged [Mikyle McIntosh]

I'd like to have him but we'll be fine no matter.

Agreed. I'm just not for turning down a bonus player if there is any chance at all he could help the team next season, especially when you're not giving up anything to add him to your roster.

Could be a moot point with him visiting Oregon today.

I don't think I've seen anyone suggest turning him away. Of course he'd be a good get, at this point, it's probably him or an empty roster spot.

The only two things I've pointed out are:

1. I'm not sure he is good enough to beat out anybody that projects to start for us, and I don't know that his impact would be as great as some of you seem to think it would be.

2. Most kids don't transfer from a school where they started to be a bench guy somewhere. I'm sure the OU coaches have told him he can compete for a starting spot, but I really don't see them putting Odomes or Doolittle on the bench for this guy. So he has to decide if he is okay coming off the bench, when he would go somewhere like Oregon and have a clearer path to being a starter.

Nothing there I disagree with. My focus all along is spelled out in your opening statement. Better him than an open roster spot, especially since using that ship on a grad transfer would not affect our 2018 class.

The only thing I might question is if he's good enough to push Odomes for a starting spot? If Rashard works on his perimeter shot during the offseason and comes back proving what I said about him throughout the season last year was not a figment of my imagination, no way he'll lose his starting spot. If he continues to be a one dimensional player on offense, he could open the door to someone like McIntosh.

I'm not naïve enough to think that starting doesn't matter to players, but focusing so much on whether he would start seems a little shortsighted to me. Whether he goes to OU, Oregon, or any other good program, he will have to compete for minutes. Illinois State was a very solid team last year, so it isn't like he has never played on a team with other good players. Playing time (almost) always works itself out -- the guys who stay healthy and play the best will get the lion's share of the minutes. Twelve months ago, I don't think anyone on this board (myself included) would have anticipated James struggling badly enough to lose his starting spot by midseason. I don't think OU would be pursuing him unless Lon and the staff believe he could help us in a meaningful way.

As far as I know he didn't commit to Oregon on the visit so that is positive for us.

Agreed. I actually thought he would commit to the Ducks during his visit. If your assumption is correct, that's definitely a positive sign for the good guys.

Oregon only has 1 open scholarship and they had 2 prospects rated higher than McIntosh. Brian Bowen is a 5-star HS wing out of Detroit but he might have enrolled at Louisville this weekend.

The other is Cameron Johnson who is a Pitt transfer who is immediately eligible with 2 years of eligibility left. I think he's visiting North Carolina on Monday and has an offer from Kentucky. He's probably the best available transfer but Pitt is trying to limit the schools he can transfer to.

Oregon may grow tired of chasing the other 2 guys and sign McIntosh..... who hasn't tipped his hand on where he might be leaning.

Do they really only have one open scholarship? I was under the impression that they still have several openings. They had a bunch of guys declare early and others decide to transfer. I really don't know their situation but was given the impression they were getting almost a whole new team.

I was just repeating info from one of their message boards. They ask the question if Altman would take McIntosh's commitment, or wait on Bowen or Johnson. It sure sounds like they only have one open scholarship.
