Looking at UNLV in 2010-2011.
Having not seen them play at all and having nothing but statistics to go by, I found some interesting in-site into how Lon Kruger coached this last season
Looking at Minutes played only, UNLV used nine players. A quick look at other Lon Kruger coached teams shows this to be consistent. Sometimes it has been eight and sometimes ten, but nine is pretty consistent.
He had two “center”-types who are 6-11 and 6-10. They both played the least amount of minutes of the nine at 15 and 11.7 minutes per game respectively. With roughly 26.7 minutes at the “Five” another 13.3 has to come from somewhere.
Kansas-transfer Quintrell Thomas supplied 15.4 minutes. He is the only other legitimate big on the roster as he goes 6-8 and 245. That pretty much would take care of the Center spot in minutes with a small amount to go to the Power Forward spot. (2.1 minutes)
The next BIG player (6-8-210) is listed as a Guard-Forward. He is UNLVs leading rebounder at 5.9 per game. He averaged 29.3 mpg. Thomas was the second leading rebounder(5.2) while a 6-6,215 pound Guard (22.0 mpg) was the third leading rebounder at 4.2 rpg.
I am grouping the last four players in three spots. They are 6-4, 6-2, 6-3 and 6-3. Oscar Bellfield, who looks to be the Point Guard, was the only Rebel to play over 30 minutes a game (33.7). The leading scorer played 29 minutes the third most on the team. One of the four outside players averaged 4 rebounds a game and another 3.5.
Analysis:
Realizing he was playing his best players, it appears that UNLV plays four outside players (Guard-Small Forward) and only one post player. They look to have only THREE Post type players on the whole roster.
Our roster looks to play into this scheme very well.
I see it as Fitzgerald and Goff as the Bigs with some Osby mixed in. Washington might help here too.
Blair-Pledger-Clark-Osby-Newell-Neal on the perimeter.
Not ideal...but not bad. Another post and another combo-guard would look even better.
UNLV 2010
Tre'Von Willis—G-6-4.............29.0 mpg...13.2 ppg...3.5 rpg
Chance Stanback---G-F-6-8....29.3 …......13.0 …......5.9
Oscar Bellfield--- G-6-2,,,,,,,,,,,33.7 …......11.2 …......2.4
Anthony Marshall—G-6-3........26.6 ….....9.7 …........4.0

Carlos Lopez-----F-6-11............11.7.........4.8...........1.8
Brice Massamba-F-C-6-10........15.0........3.6............2.2
Take it for what it is worth. I thought it was kind of interesting to try to figure out what might happen this season.
