Earlier this February Abdi' team made it over to the US to play in the National Prep School invitational. I believe this is the same tournament that Newell blew up in.

Abdi's stats from those four games.

Game 1 vs Notre Dame Prep
6 points (3-6 FG, 0-1 3), 7 rebounds (3 offensive), 2 assists, 3 blocks, 16 minutes
(Canarias lost 63-51)

Game 2 vs Bridgton Academy
4 points (2-3 FG), 4 rebounds (1 offensive) 13 minutes
(Canarias lost 75-58)

Game 3 vs South Kent
3 points (1-6 FG, 1-2 FT), 7 rebounds (1 offensive), 38 minutes
(Canarias lost 70-69)

Game 4 vs Winchenden School
6 points (3-6 FG), 13 rebounds (5 offensive), 28 minutes
(Canrias lost 69-46)

Tournament Averages
4.8 Points per game, 7.8 rebounds (2.5 offensive), 23.8 minutes a game

We need rebounds and presence from him. I think he will do fine after a little experience.

There's no doubt in my mind Abdi is going to be a work in progress, but one valuable to the practices to simulate teams with true Centers.

He'll possibly contribute his redshirt sophomore year as a defender and rebounder. That's fine.

I really doubt if he redshirts, right now I think he will be the 4th post on this roster. So he will get some minutes by default.

Lol@ redshirt.

I'm doubting he redshirts either. His height alone will get him into games. Obviously the staff saw something in him to offer and Capel has a good track record in developing big men.

I guess just about everyone on this thread is blind. I like the number of rebounds I see. I guess you guys are wanting this kid to come in and average 20 points a game. Not going to happen. If this kid can come in and rebound like his numbers indicate then the rest will fall into place. BOOMER SOONER BABY!!!

I understand what you are saying and it makes complete sense....but 4.8 points per game in a highschool tourny being 6'10 is not very good....but who knows he could blow up next year

I woud love if he averaged 6 pts, 8 rbds, and 2 blocks a game...that would be HUGE for us

I agree. It makes you wonder if they doubled and tripled him most of the time. His stats for the year are much better than what we see in those few games so who knows what happened in that tourney.

I know 4.8 pts is not much... As stated above, but its not like he was shooting 12 times a game. The most he shot was 6 and was 13-21 fg's an avg of 62%... I'll take 62% anyday of the week!

As I said on another thread, it looked like he did a good job on the things he could control (rebounding and shot selection).

heard the other teams played a triangle and 2 against his team, and the triangle covered him

I think dyner was actually at that tourney. Maybe he can chime in.

One thing that I believe we do know is the level of the competition in that tourney was much better than what he saw back in the Canary Islands/Spain.
